Jason Connell:

Welcome to Just Curious Media. This is Let's Talk - Cobra Kai. I'm Jason Connell.

Sal Rodriguez:

And I'm Sal Rodriguez.

Jason Connell:

All right. So this is a very special episode and kind of breaking news, albeit a week late. Here we are with the release date for season three of Cobra Kai.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, you brought this to my attention. I didn't know that we had an official release date yet. So very excited to hear about this. So without

Jason Connell:

further ado, why don't you do the honors.

Sal Rodriguez:

Netflix is releasing season three of Cobra Kai on January 8. And for those keeping score here, January 8 is a Friday so which means that you can have your entire weekend to binge watch all of season three a Cobra Kai.

Jason Connell:

That is right. And as you know, at the stroke of midnight, Netflix drops all episodes.

Sal Rodriguez:

Oh, is that when they do it? As soon as it hits midnight they dropped. They're gonna drop 10 episodes. That is how

Jason Connell:

they've done it historically. I do remember staying up till midnight for Arrested Development once and they did that at midnight. Every episode was there. So that's how it should be for this.

Sal Rodriguez:

Okay, well, for us, this is going to be like a New Year's Eve Countdown. Oh, right. I literally am going to count the seconds until I can watch season three. I mean, geez. Talk about anticipation. We have been waiting. How many months? Have we been waiting for

Jason Connell:

this? Well, you and I figured it was supposed to come out like when season one and season two did. And April, May. And it didn't. So we are many months over the expiration date. And as far as we know, season three was ready to go. Maybe they were tightening some things up. But it had been locked. It was probably waiting to come out. And then of course, as everyone knows, a certain pandemic hits. And everything gets put on pause.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, one of the signs, if you will, was somebody looked at Zolo mighty dunya, who plays Miguel, he posted back in November of 2019. Season Four is a wrap. So they had already shot season four and been wrapped, or at least he was wrapped November 21. That also is a spoiler that you know if Xolo as Miguel has wrapped season four, that implies he was in season three and season four. So you know that Miguel lives, right?

Jason Connell:

Well, it could be flashbacks if he doesn't live. But the trailer that we've both seen has a couple little nuggets in it, Miguel on the hospital, Robbie in jail. And then there's an O maj to Game of Thrones when Jon Snow wakes from the dead. And Miguel does the same and kind of opens his eyes. And it's a great ending to it. So we know that in there that Miguel is okay. Or at least alive. We don't know if he can walk again or fight again or anything else. Yeah, so it's really exciting. I guess they had chance to get back into production. So they're lining up season four. And you got to think so that it's going to come out in the spring, summer or fall. There's no way they're gonna wait until 2022 for season four, not now not with all the hype that Cobra Kai has gotten from Netflix. So I think we're gonna get two seasons next year,

Sal Rodriguez:

they're going to drop an entire season all at once. There's no way they're going to make us wait an entire year for the next season. Forget it.

Jason Connell:

No. And that's why they probably put it in January, early January that, so just get it right there after the holidays. Everyone's ready for something new and fresh. And now they're looking forward to it. And then maybe you know, six months later drops season four,

Sal Rodriguez:

I'm thinking that they're probably going to drop season four in the fall of 2021.

Jason Connell:

Right. And I think it'd be summer. But as long as it happens, I'm good. But you and I have a lot of work to do the minute they drop season three, unless we get press copies, which I don't know if that'll happen. Being in THE Producers Guild, I get movie screeners around award season, but I don't get TV shows or shows like this. So we'll probably have to watch it like everyone else. And then watch it again for notes, and then rush in the studio and start recording.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, I mean, if they're dropping 10 episodes, in one night, one fell swoop. I'm going to try to have us record at least have two three episodes a week so that we can cover that season. Absolutely.

Jason Connell:

We'll have to do it. In fact, let's have a marathon and just do 10 episodes in a row without break.

Sal Rodriguez:

You know what I would not be against something like that. It's sort of a a gimmick. And I am all about gimmicks. And there's a lot of speculation about what's supposed to happen in season three, one of the biggest ones or should I say some of the news that we know for certain it seems like everybody agrees on this is that they're going back to Okinawa, not only figuratively, but literally because for those fans who know when Karate Kid two was shot in Okinawa, was not actually shot in Okinawa boats was shot in Hawaii. Yeah. However, in season three, when they wind up in Okinawa, apparently they are really in Okinawa.

Jason Connell:

And you would know this if it's Okinawa or Hawaii Dublin's Okinawa because you've been to Okinawa.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, that's the magic of moviemaking. Even though I haven't been to Okinawa when I watch Karate Kid to, I don't necessarily know that we're not looking at Okinawa know for, for those of you who have not been to Okinawa or Japan, there is sort of a difference. Okinawa has more of an island feel more of a Hawaii feel different energy, different activities, then mainland Japan. So definitely, it's easy to cheat Okinawa as Hawaii or Hawaii as Okinawa.

Jason Connell:

Very true, very true. And that's the magic of filmmaking. But I guess besides him going Okinawa, which is really exciting, that opens up the door for so many things. You have Daniel going back to maybe get reset. What's happened with Robbie on the lam. Although now we know he's probably in jail. He's going there to get re centered much like Miyagi did and karate kid to to see his father and just kind of get back to his roots. So we don't know what's going to happen there. And that's super exciting. And there's so many storylines spinning. We don't know where Johnny's gonna go. He walked away from Cobra Kai Sal, he's out. That's like a huge storyline that I'm dying to know what happens. Yeah. Because

Sal Rodriguez:

even if you say, Daniel, winds up in Okinawa, great. Yeah. What happens to Johnny? What happens to Miguel? What happens to Samantha? What happens to Amanda? What if Daniel winds up in Okinawa? What if he meets Kumiko? Again, well, where's Amanda and all this his wife? So a lot of interesting things could happen. But it does open up a lot of ideas into Well, where's the rest of the cast?

Jason Connell:

I think it'd be great if you ran into Kimiko. And she was married and had a kid and he has Amanda and Sam and Anthony there. I think it could be really cool. And then maybe he goes off and runs into chosen there's an idea, and maybe chose ins, made a serious comeback in life after trying to kill him. And he was young, and he shamed his uncle. And maybe he got on the right path. I mean, there's just so many ways that this could go. And the good thing is that we're in really good hands with the creators, they tend to always make the right choice. And that is exciting. And very rare.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, I don't think after these two seasons of Cobra Kai, I thought that they made poor decisions, or that I would have done things any or much differently. So yeah, I definitely agree with that.

Jason Connell:

So we could speculate forever. We're super excited, because we're fans first. And we're podcaster. Second. We love the series. We love the franchise, the Karate Kid. And it's just so excited to see where it's going. And I also feel like we're early adaptors, we were part of the YouTube Red crowd. So we were telling people about this show before, it was as big as it is now, thanks to Netflix, and what's happened in the last few months with the show. And it's a really exciting time,

Sal Rodriguez:

I will tell you this, and this is for sure. And that is when Cobra Kai was on YouTube. I didn't see my Facebook friends talking about it much or at all. And yet now, lots of Facebook friends are talking about Cobra Kai. So definitely, Netflix opened up a lot of doors and a lot of mines to Cobra Kai, whereas YouTube as much as I love YouTube as a YouTuber myself, YouTube doesn't have the impact that Netflix has.

Jason Connell:

No it doesn't and not to put them down by any means. Thank goodness, they were involved in the show for so long. But when it's easy for people to digest, it's right there. People go to netflix. It was a great show. The material was really amazing. I knew it immediately. It was why I reached out to you because I thought this show is amazing. It'll make for a great podcast. Let's do this. I knew that it would eventually reach the masses. I knew it. Because I believed in the movie so much. And the franchise as a whole and the actors and the filmmakers. So here we are, we envision it getting popular this show. And now we're there and who knows sky's the limit with this right now this franchise is at an all time high, in my opinion.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, so I'm pretty excited. I have it in my calendar, January 8 2021, which is a Friday. Put that in your calendar, set your reminders and Yeah, as soon as midnight hits, do yourself a favor, have a countdown like New Year's Eve and get ready all of us are on the same page. I always like to remind you and our listeners about that. Now all of us are on the same page. Everybody waiting for season three, and now we have a definitive date.

Jason Connell:

So I would recommend this if you have the time and I know Sal will do it as well. Go back and watch season one and season two of Cobra Kai. Watch Karate Kid one two and three. Throw in The Next Karate Kid Mr. Miyagi is in it and prepare yourself for what's coming and if you have time Hey, listen to all the let's talk Cobra Kai podcast, and really be ready to go out on January 8,

Sal Rodriguez:

yeah, no, I agree with that. I would encourage everybody to explore all the movies, all the folklore. In fact, tonight just tonight as we speak as soon as we're done. My girlfriend and I are going to be watching Karate Kid three. We're going to be having sushi. And we're going to be drinking Saki. This may be one of the most romantic evenings of our relationship ever. I think what happened is, you know, we saw Karate Kid to just last night, I think it stirred something up in her. And now here we are watching Karate Kid three. I can't believe it. This is a new phase of our relationship.

Jason Connell:

You guys are having your own tea ceremony.

Sal Rodriguez:

If she if she breaks out the tea ceremony. I will not be surprised.

Jason Connell:

That's really exciting. And just a little teaser for our audience. Sal and I will be doing the Karate Kid. Part three sooner than you know.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, that's gonna be coming out. Be sure to keep listening for that. Keep an eye out for that. We did karate kid. The first movie special episode we did karate kid two special episode. Karate Kid three coming out soon.

Jason Connell:

So please continue to listen, subscribe rate and review the show. It really means so much to Sal and I are so excited to do what we do to know there's an audience out there, enjoying it and waiting for it and communicating with us. And so anything you want to add?

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, I've been having a great time going down the rabbit hole of the Karate Kid Cobra Kai universe. We talked about the no more kings Sweep the leg music video we talked about the survivor. Moment of Truth music video. Now here we are talking about the release date. If any listeners have any ideas of what would be a great episode things we could talk about things we can touch on. Please let us know. We want to hear from you. Alright, thanks

Jason Connell:

so much. And we'll see you next time No Mercy
