Jason Connell:

Welcome to Just curious media. This is let's talk Cobra Kai. I'm Jason Connell.

Sal Rodriguez:

And I'm Sal Rodriguez.

Jason Connell:

All right, so here we are at the halfway point, Episode Five, season three, Miyagi dough.

Sal Rodriguez:

It's kind of bittersweet. It's kind of one of those feelings when you're at the midpoint of your vacation, where you're enjoying yourself, your loving life, but you can kind of see the end in sight. Yeah. So the fact that we're halfway through you know, really I have mixed feelings about that, because I'm really enjoying this ride this season is phenomenal. It really

Jason Connell:

is an enjoyable season. And unlike the first two seasons, like drastically different

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, I mean, talk about things coming out of left field them throwing us for loops them pulling the chair out from under us. As I've said, another editions of Let's Talk Cobra Kai, I mean, things that are sort of typical of the creators of Cobra Kai. As far as making these right turns and to use their own terminology, flip the script, they are constantly flipping the script on the viewers

Jason Connell:

expect the unexpected. So before we jump into all the stuff, I like to do the ratings, the synopsis, the of course, the scene by scene, chronological breakdown in which we do you have some news you want to share with everybody?

Sal Rodriguez:

Uh, yes, indeed, Jason, you know, I've had a YouTube channel for some time that became sort of by default, a toy review channel. I then started adding sort of just toy related content. Along the way, I jump on board with Jason Connell and let's talk Cobra Kai and I decided to merge my worlds. So what I did is I created some content with the Cobra Kai Karate Kid universe. The first one is a review of Daniel Russo and Johnny Lawrence action figures made by NECA that's NACA. I put a review up online on YouTube on the Salvatore Los Angeles channel. And you know what, the viewership is going kind of nuts the last few weeks, I'm up to almost 200,000 views. Did I have anything to do with it? No. Maybe this podcast had something to do with it. But not me. Personally, I don't know what happened. But this video is going nuts.

Jason Connell:

Now these views Sal, they're not all of yours, right? 100,000 are mine.

Sal Rodriguez:

There's at least 90,000 other people. And the most recent video I did is a trailer for an upcoming Well, Jason had me to realize that this was sort of a short film, but what I did is I went out to Sedona, Arizona, with Daniel and Gianni action figures and put sort of a short film together. And you can see a trailer of the short film and the voices are done by myself and Jason Connell doing the voices of Daniel and Johnny out in the Sedona desert. high jinks ensue. You do not want to miss this. It is the Daniel Russo, Johnny Lawrence The Adventures of Daniel and Johnny Volume One trailer on the Salvatore Los Angeles YouTube channel. Don't miss out.

Jason Connell:

It was quite fun to voice Johnny Lawrence. And a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to helping out any way I can on future adventures of Daniel and Gianni maybe for volume two three and four. I hope they don't slowly get worse like the film's

Sal Rodriguez:

by even doing volume by putting volume the kind of an homage to Tarantino you know what kind of volume right? Yeah, so So I did that. But no, this is all in fun. In the end, it's all in promotion of Let's Talk Cobra Kai. So it's all in fun. It's all in humor. So check out these videos, have a good laugh. Enjoy them and there will be more to come.

Jason Connell:

Alright, so this episode, like all others came out on January 1 2021. And of course this episode is entitled Miyagi dough. Very fitting title for this episode. And so what do you think the IMDb Rating is for this episode?

Sal Rodriguez:

Jason if I'm not mistaken, the rating was surprisingly high. And by surprisingly I mean, I was we were cruising around the 8.48 point fives for a little while. And then the last one jumped up to 8.7 So I'm gonna take a take a guess here on a put my money on 8.8 9.20 my god it went up from 8.7 which we thought was high to 9.2

Jason Connell:

Yes, it did. Well, this is a great episode, and not to diminish the others. These numbers move around a lot. I don't think episode fives that much more superior than episode four, which I thought was a great episode. But nonetheless, 9.2 is the highest thus far for this season. And it just so happens to be an incredible episode.

Sal Rodriguez:

I'm almost without words. And you know, that's rare. And the audience knows that to really this episode. It grabbed me by the collar slapped me around. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and what I was hearing in this episode.

Jason Connell:

And so the synopsis is in Okinawa, Daniel spends time with an old friend and an old enemy who has much to teach him the dueling. dojos rivalry comes to A nasty head. So here we go. scene by scene breakdown of the episode style. Are you ready?

Sal Rodriguez:

I am ready.

Jason Connell:

We open with a flashback of the Karate Kid part to Okinawa 1985. As Kimiko performs the bond dance chosen drops in and the fight sequence from Karate Kid Part Two is an action.

Sal Rodriguez:

And by the way, you know what's funny is the more you watch any particular content you start to notice things as this fight is happening in front of this massive crowd. I was thinking this crowd is worthless they're not doing anything they're not helping. Is anybody running to the police right now? They did the drums and that's about it.

Jason Connell:

I thought that when we did the episode I think I even spoke on this like I can't believe there's not like an assassin up high in the broom or he's got like a blow gun or something some shoot some darts. But yeah, they literally stand by and watch is potentially we lose Kimiko and Daniel and this fight to the death I thought the same thing so

Sal Rodriguez:

there is no security at King Shahar she's Castle

Jason Connell:

No, no. So of course the fight sequence ends with the second nose honk and the movie when Daniel has chosen dead to rights so to speak and has his hand ready to strike him and deliver a death blow but of course much like Mr. Miyagi did earlier in the film to one since a crease. He shows mercy and as a classic on the nose and chosen lives and although chosen this scene wanted to die unlike John crease. I think he just looks scared.

Sal Rodriguez:

Mr. Miyagi didn't give crease a liver die option. That's true. He just said the an enemy deserves no mercy. So you think he's going to go in for the death blow? Right But Daniel gave chosen the liver die man, option two which chosen chose die which by the way, I think if someone gave me that option, I would not choose die. But we'll see.

Jason Connell:

Well, maybe Chosun already knew that He disgraced his uncle Sato and he might be dead anyway. If if Daniel doesn't kill him, Sato may

Sal Rodriguez:

His honor is gone. And when your honor is gone, you may as well be dead.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. So now we're back to present day and Daniel with clenched fist stairs at chosen

Sal Rodriguez:

the very end of the last episode ended with chosen walking into the bar. And now here we are, Daniel is face to face with chosen Yeah, those clenched fist you notice that I like looking at body language. And Daniel was there, clenched fists, even though he was seated, ready to defend himself, because the last time he saw this guy, he was trying to murder him.

Jason Connell:

He thinks he has to defend Kumiko again, and he's like, Oh my gosh, here we go again. And here comes chosen slowly walks over, but he's got a menacing growl on his face as well. And he walks over. And of course, this is mentioned played by Yugi Nakamoto. A fantastic reprise of this character, much like Tamlyn Tomita plane Kimiko, a wonderful actress. So he comes over sell, and you don't really know what's gonna happen here. And of course, this leads to what,

Sal Rodriguez:

Jason there was even a little moment there. When even Kumiko was thinking, was this not a good idea? There's a little there's a little second there, where even she doubted herself, you know? So yeah. Chosen walks up to Daniel. And he gently bows. Respectfully,

Jason Connell:

respectfully. And I also have to mention Sal, I love that both Daniel and chosen are wearing Hawaiian pattern shirts,

Sal Rodriguez:

you know, and by the way chosen seems like he's not only kept himself slim and trim. Looks like he's been pumping some weights. It looks like he's got some guns on him. Huh? You know, I'm going to talk about because I'm excited. I got so excited when I heard. So we're gonna get there for sure.

Jason Connell:

Now we're at Johnny's apartment and he goes to get Miguel for training. But of course he stumbles on what?

Sal Rodriguez:

I love this. So Miguel is laying on this therapy table, almost like a massage table. Yeah. And this worker, some sort of physical therapist type guy named Braden greets Johnny with Mahalo. Might I remind you might I remind our listeners, they are currently in receipt of Yeah, and he says Mahalo to Johnny as he walks in. Carmen is there standing by watching this. And he's basically Braden. There's some sort of hippie dippie granola type, physical therapist, and Johnny is not having any of it.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, Johnny is very displeased with this whole scene. He thinks it's beneath Miguel, but Carmen has to set him straight.

Sal Rodriguez:

Welcome As Braden is just basically kind of gently stretching and manipulating Miguel's legs. Miguel isn't doing anything but laying there and unfortunately does not feel any sensation in his legs. So Braden is just kind of moving Miguel's legs about and telling him to inhale joy and love. Yeah. So after a couple of seconds, Carmen has had enough of Johnny. And she says to him, you clearly have an opinion about his methods. But if you can't keep that opinion to yourself, maybe you should just catch up with Miguel, once this therapy session is over. And whoa, well, I mean, we are seeing some tough instances of Carmen, but she's not afraid to tell Johnny off.

Jason Connell:

She's also allowed Johnny to see Miguel be part of his training. She doesn't want Johnny to come and rain on this parade of trying other methods, so to speak.

Sal Rodriguez:

While Carmen has confidence in this physical therapist, and the doctor who prescribed said therapist, and she is not taking any interference from Johnny, so I gotta hand it to Carmen. Yeah,

Jason Connell:

she's one tough woman, much like Amanda.

Sal Rodriguez:

I was thinking recently how Cobra Kai has a lot of tough women. There's a lot of when I say femininity, I don't mean necessarily daintiness but the strength of femininity, the strength that lies in femininity. There's a lot of that and Cobra Kai, I would imagine that anybody who appreciates womanhood would be able to appreciate Cobra Kai.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, not to mention Samantha and Tori.

Sal Rodriguez:

This is not just a show for guys. I will say that on a hilltop Cobra Kai is not just the show for guys.

Jason Connell:

So now we're back in jail and creases meeting with Robbie, because we saw this meeting about to happen in the last episode. So here we are. And in this exchange, Sal, we learn right away. What about Johnny

Sal Rodriguez:

crease starts to go into this tale about Johnny fighting a third generation Black Belt named the doll. And he says to Robbie, your old man last, but he didn't make it easy.

Jason Connell:

And he also said that Johnny made the quarterfinals and his first all Valley.

Sal Rodriguez:

Oh, yeah. So he made the quarters. And then he drew the name bundle.

Jason Connell:

So Johnny was always a contender in all Valley, which is amazing. And we know he's a two time champion. And he's obviously since increases greatest pupil of all time.

Sal Rodriguez:

Robbie, though, is disinterested. Yeah. And he says, Go tell somebody else who gives a shit. So he's not having it. But what Chris does, it seems like he changes gears here. Chris tells Robbie, that he's not to blame for the events. At the West Valley High School brawl. He says, You tried to break up that fight and Diaz attacked you. And then even more he comes along, you can keep beating yourself up for what went down, but by the look of your face. Seems there's plenty of people here. Happy to do that for you. So he's absolving Robbie of guilt for what he did to Miguel. Oh, boy. And uh, you know what? I'm thinking that Robbie is starting to receive some of this.

Jason Connell:

Yes, the master manipulator is at work here, for sure. Because Robbie also said earlier in the conversation, the last thing I need now is another sensei. And so yeah, Chris knows how to navigate that. Okay, great. All right. I'll go over here. You know, he goes on to say, you might want to learn to strike

Sal Rodriguez:

first, yo, and we're gonna see how Robbie took that advice to heart very soon.

Jason Connell:

Yes, indeed. So now we get to Miyagi dough dojo, and we see Chris hit the ground hard after being hit by Dimitri. And by the way, sound can I just point out Dimitri shirt here?

Sal Rodriguez:

No, I missed that. What does it say?

Jason Connell:

You can't stop me out. I'm on a roll. And it's a cat on a roll. Only Dimitri,

Sal Rodriguez:

shout out, shout out to the wardrobe department. That's pretty funny. And I say that I say that as a cat lover, but

Jason Connell:

that's why I thought you may have seen the shirt. So then Sam sees this and she's like, do it again. You know, she's running the show here. So she's since a Sam.

Sal Rodriguez:

Sam has taken over Miyagi dough dojo, while Daniel is in Okinawa.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, she's commandeered the dojo and she's having class but

Sal Rodriguez:

I just realized Jason, that at this very moment, John crease is in charge of Cobra Kai and Sam LORUSSO is in charge of Miyagi dough.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. Oh, I think so changed

Sal Rodriguez:

my how the tables have turned.

Jason Connell:

So right when Sam asked them to do it again, who arrives,

Sal Rodriguez:

Amanda arrives at At the old Miyagi house and receita along with Anthony shout out Anthony.

Jason Connell:

Yes. Our first Griffin Santo Pietro spot of the year.

Sal Rodriguez:

I think this is his first appearance this season. Yes. Very happy to see him. He is a guest of the let's talk Cobra Kai podcast.

Jason Connell:

Yes, he was. We did a great interview with him recently. Please check it out. He's wonderful. And Sal, let me just say this. He's grown.

Sal Rodriguez:

He has and his hair looks great. I say that as a bald guy. By the way, I want to give a mention that he was eating an ice cream but not just any ice cream. They are in receipt a most likely a Paletta from a street vendor, somewhere in receipt, a

Jason Connell:

shout out receipt. And he's dressed in his soccer outfit. So he along with everyone else in Cobra Kai, and the Karate Kid play soccer.

Sal Rodriguez:

I also noticed Amanda is in some sort of workout garb. So is it possible that she dropped off Anthony at soccer while she went to go to some sort of a fitness class of her own? Then pick up Anthony from soccer and then head over to the old Miyagi house?

Jason Connell:

Yeah, and then hit the vendor on the way over and hit

Sal Rodriguez:

by let that salesman Yes.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, she basically super disappointed in Samantha for running this underground karate lessons and pretty much squashes it right then in there.

Sal Rodriguez:

This was hilarious. Anthony is instigating just a total annoying, snotty little brother. Fantastic job in this scene, instigating until he gets banished back to the car by Amanda. Yeah, textbook Anthony. So Amanda says, what part of no more karate did you not understand? And she says, principal Lopez called her. And then Sam says something I found very interesting because Sam says, If you really think karate is the problem, then you haven't been paying attention. And I pause there for a second I even paused the Netflix playback. And I thought, well, what is her problem? Is it Miguel? Is it her family? What specifically is Sam's problem? Other than Tori and Cobra Kai right now?

Jason Connell:

Yeah, it's complicated for Samantha. I mean, when you're dealing with PTSD, which will be happening later in this episode, no spoilers. So who knows what's really ailing her? I don't even know if she knows exactly what it is right now.

Sal Rodriguez:

I'm just going to take a wild guess and say that it's her love for Robbie and Miguel, she is torn in between two guys, which by the way, I just have to say is a trope for a lot of entertainment that is aimed at women and young women especially to be caught between two guys, Twilight, anyone. So that's a common trope. And I do think that they're using that a little bit here because aside from her torn emotions between these two guys, she seems to have good parents, right? She seems to have a good life. She seems like she's doing okay, except for being in love with two guys.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. Well, you had said something on an earlier episode that you are now going to be using the word trope more often and you're staying true to it.

Sal Rodriguez:

That is my new buzzword internet trope.

Jason Connell:

So now we're back at the bar in Okinawa, and Sal, this exchange is hilarious. This

Sal Rodriguez:

is only top comedic ly by an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. As far as that hilarious awkwardness we have Kumiko in the center, and then Daniel and chosen at either end, doing this face off and chosen has a scowl on his face. It is hilarious.

Jason Connell:

It is absolutely hilarious and chosen Yeah, he's stiff as a board and Daniel's just trying to break the ice No pun intended. And I found that to be quite funny indeed.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, tough crowd for Daniel

Jason Connell:

to say the least. So now can Miko who invited chosen, she dismisses herself and leaves Daniel alone with him who is absolutely terrified.

Sal Rodriguez:

Kumiko reassures Daniel because Daniel says that guy tried to kill me and you and Kumiko says that was a long time ago. Chosen has changed. Wow. Okay. Daniel is not buying it though. He's not buying it. Before she leaves she says it seems you and him have lots to talk about

Jason Connell:

how right she is. So Miguel says goodbye to his physical therapist and Johnny is on the spot with his unique training style of dangling in 8819 88 that is Swimsuit Edition and not Sports Illustrated, mind you from the second floor with his fishing pole style, all while yellow plays Oh, yeah. From Yes, dealer. Stay off.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yes. And not just Ferris Bueller's Day Off. But the secret of my success, which is where I first noticed that Song and fell in love with it.

Jason Connell:

Bom Bom such a great song. So this is a really funny sequence and Miguel plays it so well. So John is basically encouraging him to try to stand up out of said wheelchair. So as soon as he reaches for the magazine, he lifts it up. And of course, Miguel is just kind of like, you know, I could just look this up online, if I wanted to see these photos. But I believe Johnny thinks that, no, it's way hotter on the page, which is just so funny.

Sal Rodriguez:

Jason, I had to pause there. I'm at the age where I've had the digital life and the analog life. And I thought about it. Johnny's right. Chicks are hotter on the page.

Jason Connell:

It might just be our age brackets out, but I'm not sure. And he also references I think I got my Vanna White Playboy issue inside somewhere, which is also great, because that made a lot of publicity back in the day, I totally remember that. But of course, this leads to another fail and he wipes out which is becoming a theme and the Johnny training sequences.

Sal Rodriguez:

I like what Miguel said he said, you could dangle a new Playstation in front of me, and I still couldn't stand up.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. Yeah, he's very noticeably sad. I mean, after the therapist laughed, and this thing doesn't work again. So yeah, you can just tell like he's facing real possibility of never walking again.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, Braden, our hippie dippie physical therapist was very encouraging and supportive. But Miguel kept saying making these little comments that he couldn't feel anything. So unfortunately, Miguel is starting to lose hope.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, absolutely. So now we're back in Okinawa, and Daniel and chosen are on a field trip. And Sal, they talk about the creation of Miyagi dough, with scenes from The Karate Kid, Part Two, and I really liked this exchange here.

Sal Rodriguez:

It's a beautiful landscape. I mean, they're loved. They're right there on the edge of the ocean overlooking these, those like little peninsulas and little islands of beautiful view, and chosen says, This is where karate was born. And they talk about Shimpo sensei who brought the secret of Miyagi family karate to Okinawa, and then we have a quick flashback to Miyagi telling the fishing story of shimbo Sensei, who also liked Saki, yes, stronger winds, stronger son strong a sucky, no fish,

Jason Connell:

who came back to the village with a Chinese wife. And this practice, which he had learned while he was away, and thus Miyagi dough was born.

Sal Rodriguez:

But then, Daniel says to chosen, Mr. Miyagi taught me everything he knew, and then chosen challenges him. So you know, everything. And that's the first. Yes, was right there if it's not the biggest, but it's the first one. So he challenges Daniel's knowledge of his own karate history.

Jason Connell:

That's right. So then this field trip continues into a beautiful dwelling. I mean, this thing is gorgeous now. And then we come to find out that this is Miyagi dough, and Sato, who passed away, pass this on to chosen. And so I gotta say, it really pays to stick around in Okinawa, because beautiful homes are passed on to people such as chosen, and Kimiko.

Sal Rodriguez:

You know what I was thinking that same thing. I'm not the biggest Home and Garden guy. But really, I did pause for a second and think wow, that is a beautiful setting a beautiful home, spick and span. It's got the Zen living look to it, which is the minimalism which I know you love, Jason. Oh, yes. This was a beautiful spread. Was this chosen his house? Did he lived there? I don't know if they were implying that. It's a beautiful dojo. He inherited it, but I don't know if chosen lives there. But if he does, well, props to chosen.

Jason Connell:

I'm not sure if he does, it's probably like a museum for him. Unlike Yuki A's house, which can Miko does live in or it would appear so. But I think it's more like maybe chosen live somewhere else and cares for this place because he almost seems like a monk. He lives like a monk esque life. And which I think is really amazing to see how far he's come since the credit card part to end and

Sal Rodriguez:

if there's one thing Cobra Kai has taught us, is that the bad can become good and the good can become bad. Yeah. So now we have seen the transformation have chosen and will soon be seen a fantastic tear jerking reconciliation.

Jason Connell:

And maybe to add to your point, I think the bad can just get worse, like John crease.

Sal Rodriguez:

You know what John crease is the only character when I think about it, the only character in the Cobra Kai Karate Kid. series who has not redeemed himself, Terry silver. Okay, I thought about Terry silver, because I thought if we could see the redemption of chosen, could we potentially see the redemption of Terry silver? What if Terry silver walked up to Daniel Russo put out his hand and said, I'm sorry? Are we just supposed to forgive him?

Jason Connell:

I wouldn't trust him at first, he'd have to really prove himself. But those two guys are the least trustworthy people in the entire universe.

Sal Rodriguez:

What Chosun had on his side was Kumiko. So obviously along the way, he has had some sort of communication with Kumiko, where she could essentially vouch for him. And that's why she set up this meeting with chosen and Daniel otherwise, yeah, no, you're not going to trust chosen? No way.

Jason Connell:

No. So then Daniel sees these ancient scrolls. And this is really cool. So I mean, the creators are able to create new artifacts that just didn't exist. And here it is, he rolls it open and sees it's a scroll about the Crane Kick. It's amazing.

Sal Rodriguez:

This is like the original instruction manual. Yeah. Like, here's how you do the crane. There's a picture of a crane. Here's a picture of a guy doing the crane. I mean, what would you guess? This is what 500 years old. 300 years old,

Jason Connell:

old, hundreds of years old. And just beautiful cap here maintain. So Sato looked after it, pass it on to chosen and it's just gorgeous. And of course, there's another scroll which is rolled up tight. We don't know what it is. I like when Daniel goes for that and chosen just kind of snatches it out of his hand. He's like, Oh, that's too much.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, Daniel tries to defend himself. Hey, Mr. Miyagi treated me like a son. Not a foreigner. He wouldn't keep any secrets from me. And then chosen comes back with Are you sure about that? Well, let us find out. And then he delivers the air, which was a bigger one. This time. I get all giddy inside when I hear chosen go.

Jason Connell:

I love it. Dan was trying to make his case. And he's like, Yeah, we're kind of like karate cousins. Because our senseis had the same sensei.

Sal Rodriguez:

I think it makes sense. Yeah, it makes total sense. Yeah. If your senseis share the same sensei? Sure, some form of cousin for sure.

Jason Connell:

So now we're back in jail, and Robbie, Google's John crease, and sow this whole scene, although no words are spoken a lot to unpack here.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, this is a mini grievance here because I'm thinking here's Robbie. First of all, I don't know that inmates even at a juvenile facility have total access to not only the web but their personal email which we'll see in a second. So yeah, I'm not so sure about that. But mainly the fact that Robbie is just now googling the history of Miyagi dough and Cobra Kai only now is he learning this he's never googled it before. I found that a little hard to believe.

Jason Connell:

Good point. So we see an article come up. And of course it's Valley News celebrated war veteran leads Dojo to fourth all Valley win. So in 1983, Johnny beats Tommy, to win his back to back title Sal, Tommy beat videl to reach the finals to fight Johnny and Bobby beat videl in the third place match. So all that said Fidel was highly touted earlier in this episode when Chris met with Robbie, and in 81, he won the title of a dowloaded. But with that make Fidel a Cobra Kai, because this article says it's the fourth of Valley when in a row.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, you you put that all together. Holy cow. Well, if you look at the Cobra Kai universe, it's entirely possible we can go back in time and learn about the doll so maybe stay tuned for season four. We might we might be meeting him again.

Jason Connell:

The ways Cree spoke you think you would acclaimed Fidel is one of his own and also in this article, anytime it mentioned one of these other players Johnny Tommy Bobby, it was like Cobra Kai Cobra Kai Cobra Kai no such mentioned for Fidel, and obviously if Adele's lost his skills at 16 he was at his zenith and 83 He's bested by Bobby and Tommy and at some point in time, I'm sure Johnny beat him. So obviously we know Johnny 182 Right. 83 last a Daniel and 8481 we know now Fidel won it. Who won 80 Was it video While back to back, so yes, he had to be Cobra Kai, although it did not paint that picture. It's all I'm saying,

Sal Rodriguez:

you know who I think won in 1980? Who's Lamar from Revenge of the Nerds?

Jason Connell:

That'd be awesome. But in the Karate Kid, he was a brown belt. Oh, at the tournament, he would have been like a white belt in 80. So someone, a creators, just create the legend, the all value legend, and then go from like the 70s to current day, I would love that, who the Champs were, and the runner ups. So so this leads to a second article of the Valley News of which Robbie reads. And this one, Sal, you may remember it from the Karate Kid part three, mystery Dojo with one student defects, Cobras. And this is that great article from The Karate Kid, Part Three, that was in the newspaper at the Cobra Kai dojo. And since a crease, John crease was down on his luck, and there it was the headlines. The problem was

Sal Rodriguez:

that in the Karate Kid three didn't have corresponding articles, right? We had, we have fake copy and pasted articles, not genuinely written articles for the movie.

Jason Connell:

It had just the headlines, the photo of Mr. Miyagi and Daniel, and it was about tax law. The article was about tax. And I was like, Come on, we'll sell. I looked at this article. There's an article now what? They wrote an article. This is revisionist history. But Sal, I have to point out one last thing on this. They change something. What's that? In the headline? And the movie, it's mystery Dojo with single student defects, Cobras. And in Cobra Kai, it is mystery Dojo with one student defects, Cobras?

Sal Rodriguez:

What would be the point of that just to reduce a syllable?

Jason Connell:

Does it sound better to have one student and single student? Or was that just an oversight? I don't know. I'm just making the point.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, I think as a former newspaper editor, I would say single, you mean he's not married? So that could bring up those thoughts? So I would say yeah, let's just say one, or you can say solitary. But that's way too long as far as syllable. So yeah, I do support the use of the word one, but only if it was the original word. I don't believe exactly. They should have changed it. No, I totally

Jason Connell:

agree. So then Robbie goes on to check his email what you just pointed out, which he may not be able to do in a jail, but he's got 29 messages mainly from Shannon, Amanda, Daniel and Samantha.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, so he's got a lot of emails to respond to. And he begins to respond to Sam LORUSSO.

Jason Connell:

Yes. But right when he does, what happens?

Sal Rodriguez:

Of course, of course, this has to happen, right? Whenever things start to kind of go right, so here he is on the computer, having a moment to himself responding to Sam, and then over walks. Shawn unplugging the computer. Oh, that Shawn, the officer comes in. He says, break times up shit birds. That's right, shit birds. And then he says to Sean, what are you looking at? And this just reminded me you want to pause here. No matter how big and tough there's always somebody bigger and tougher and out in the world and Sylmar juvenile detention center, no different. There's always a bigger bully. There's a hierarchy of bullies. So we get a little peek into learning that Shawn is himself bullied.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. So now we're at golf and stuff. And Hawk Mitch and company are terrorizing the locals. And I love this sound. We learn that Chris actually works at golf and stuff. I love it.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, he works at the prize counter, where you come up to redeem your your tickets. And of course, Hawk and Mitch and the rest of the guys come up with all these stolen tickets. Yeah. And what they do is they tell him to grab some bobbleheads. So Chris goes up on the stepladder to grab a bobblehead Hawk jumps over and grabs all kinds of stuff. And then they run off and then Mitch says, Tell your mom I miss her and Hawk yells Yeah, tell her stop calling me. And you know what I'm thinking is we're there. No cameras. How do you not have any cameras at this counter? They offer no protection, golf and stuff. Come on what's going on here?

Jason Connell:

Yeah, and Hawk would be very easy to identify in some sort of lineup.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, not a lot of guys walking around with that hairstyle. Not since the 80s. Anyway,

Jason Connell:

yeah, not since the punk movement. So now we see Sam line in her bed and she receives a text from Chris.

Sal Rodriguez:

And if you look at her Samantha is pissed. She is laying there seething. When she receives the text from Chris,

Jason Connell:

and she got this tax Saturday on October 20. But this could only be in 2018. What is this a little weird, Sal? Because this was obviously shot in 2019 to come out in 2020. So, I don't know, for whatever reason, they've counted 2018 as the play date.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, I would say now, some of the timelines are starting to make sense that so maybe that's a good thing.

Jason Connell:

That is true. But then she writes back to Chris, I'm on my way. It's onsale.

Sal Rodriguez:

I love though. I love that he texts, Sam. Chris texts, Sam, since a Sam Yeah, to come and help.

Jason Connell:

So now we're back at Johnny's apartment and Sal, he's really taken some liberties with the history of hibachi.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, we learn through Johnnie, the origin of the hibachi. And the origin of the term lit a fire under them, or as some people say, light a fire under your ass. So Johnny is explaining the origin of hibachi and lighting a fire under someone.

Jason Connell:

I wouldn't take his history lesson to heart. And Miguel sees right through it as well. But this was a distraction. Because Johnny was busy doing what to Miguel

Sal Rodriguez:

Gianni is doing one of his extreme approaches. I'm reminded of the time he took the crew out and had them inside of a cement mixer. So yeah, Johnny can do some things that would be considered a dangerous or ill advisable. This is definitely one of them. Johnny lights Miguel's foot on fire. It is literally on fire. Which is terrible enough. But what's more terrible is that Miguel doesn't feel anything.

Jason Connell:

Right. And it doesn't work. This is idea gone wrong. can't feel it. And it goes from the shoelace to his pant leg. And he's got to put it out with a fire extinguisher.

Sal Rodriguez:

I'm glad that he thought ahead to have that extinguisher on hand nearby.

Jason Connell:

He could have wheeled him into the pool. I guess.

Sal Rodriguez:

That would have been a Johnny move. Yeah, we'll jump right into the pool.

Jason Connell:

I just also wanted to add to your earlier point. He also took the kids to the junkyard and the dogs came after them. So I do love his methods. A little method to the madness. However, he crosses the lines for sure on safety and things like that.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, OSHA would have him shut down.

Jason Connell:

Oh, yeah. Now we're back in Okinawa at Miyagi dough dojo, the original. And Daniel unchosen aren't full GIS now. And so what takes place is a great sparring slash fighting sequence.

Sal Rodriguez:

I think not since we first saw modern day, Johnny Lawrence, facing off with modern day Daniel Russo, in Cobra Kai dojo in season one. Not since that moment, have we seen a moment like this? And now Daniel and chosen are sparring and yeah, what did the chosen just have a GI laying around that happened to fit? Daniel, does he have a spare Lane about that was convenient and cool. And if you notice, chosen, gi was sort of a 10 color, which I found interesting,

Jason Connell:

and looked really cool. And this fight sequence is great. I mean, Daniel has been studying and the Karate Kid part to chosen was the superior fighter. But then Daniel had to save his life picked up the technique from the Dindin dicho. And that saved him. Well, he's more mature fighter now, but Chosun does know things that Daniel never learned.

Sal Rodriguez:

And what we're learning here, here in Okinawa, and Daniel is learning is that there is another level of Miyagi dough. Would you say Jason? more lethal level of Miyagi dough, that Mr. Miyagi had neglected to teach Daniel Russo.

Jason Connell:

Absolutely. That's a great way of putting it and maybe Mr. Miyagi would have taught it to him at some point in time, or maybe not. Yeah, they apparently design these special techniques to kill their enemies because they were forced to to protect themselves and their families so I thought that was really amazing to find out and then shows it even says, defense takes on many forms. And the ads sometimes you have no choice but to kill. So wow, like all of a sudden, I have a whole new appreciation for the lineage of Miyagi dough, and how they've kept it secret for so long and I really just am bonding with Chosun who now is kind of a the rightful heir to the museum and, and the history it's just, I don't know, it gives me chills. It's this kind of incredible Now,

Sal Rodriguez:

I will just have to say in simplest terms at this very moment, here we are in Okinawa and chosen is Daniel's sensei.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. So as this fight goes on, we see the ultimate as far as I know, move in Miyagi dough karate

Sal Rodriguez:

chosen gives what I would call a tricep punch on a particular location that disables Daniel's right arm. Then he does a similar move to his left leg. Then his left arm he's chopping away. He then lifts up Daniels head by the back of the hair, and then he delivers the hunk.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, and Daniel is frightened he thinks this is it for him. Game over chosen has used this Miyagi dough pressure points which paralyzes your opponent, not permanently, but just probably for X amount of time. 1020 30 seconds, I'm not sure. But that, to me, is one of the most incredible thing. So if that was true, because it really would render someone useless and chosen goes on to say, if your enemy insist on war, then you take away their ability to wage it.

Sal Rodriguez:

And Daniel says Mr. Miyagi, never showed me any of this. And chosen says maybe he thought you were not ready or not able.

Jason Connell:

So that is our third nose hawk and the Karate Kid Cobra Kai world. And do you think there will ever be a fourth? Because I'm happy if we just stopped right there with

Sal Rodriguez:

them? Well, okay, but the only nose honk I could see coming. I the only forthcoming nose honk we may see would be Miguel doing it to Robbie.

Jason Connell:

What are the odds on that? Yeah, okay. But, but this was fitting. I think we finally see the real chosen. He had this rough exterior, but we're soon to find out that he has a lot more respect for Daniel than we all realized. Yeah,

Sal Rodriguez:

he does. He does respect him.

Jason Connell:

So now we're back at Johnny's apartment and we see a list. It's how to fix McGill's legs list and sell. This is such a giant list. It's just so good. You want to go ahead and rattle off the things he's got on the page there.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yes, he has some interesting options here. First, first one is electric shock. Now, okay. Hey, you know, the medical industry used to employ electric shock. In fact, I think they still have some variations of it. So not that far fetched. No. Next one, hypnosis. Hey, a lot of great things have happened through hypnosis. People quit smoking so the mind can do powerful things. Acupuncture, all right. Not that far fetched. A lot of people do it here in the West. It's not just an Eastern thing anymore. Tony Robbins, whoa. I like that one. Because it'll power. Yeah, he didn't write down personal power or mental transformation. He just wrote down Tony Robbins like Tony Robbins himself. He has the healing powers. And then the last one, my personal favorite. LSD, L to the s to the D, also known as acid,

Jason Connell:

but then he thinks about it wadded up, throws it aside and pulls his computer out, which I love because he plugged it in South and this computer works and he's kind of shocked like, huh, I'll be damned. And this leads us to webmd.com but Johnny likes to call it something else.

Sal Rodriguez:

WebMD WebMD He is drinking his traditional Coors banquet. And let's not forget his computer is running on Windows XP. How old is that? How old is Windows XP?

Jason Connell:

Old, old. And right. When he gets into it, and he's looking up different things on the internet. We hear someone crying in a distance.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, we don't know who it is Johnny here, someone crying. He steps outside. And he sees it. It's Carmen and she's outside her apartment, crying over Miguel. And she says he's 17 years old. He should be out carefree having fun. And Johnny tries to console her.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, he does. And then he says hey, can I spend some time with Miguel tonight because it kind of put a new idea in his head so to speak. So now we're back at golf and stuff. And gang leader Sam comes in with her troops. And they go to confront hawk and Company.

Sal Rodriguez:

Hawk and the rest of the Cobra guys have made their way over to the laser tag place. By the way, Dimitri, questions this plan. I don't think he's so into it. But then Sam says, We're not on school property. It's our chance to fight back. Yeah, check out Sam.

Jason Connell:

So now we're back in jail and Robbie has had enough of Sean, who teases him as he comes in the room. And now SAO, creases advice kicks in.

Sal Rodriguez:

There's this little almost slow motion moment. When Robbie kind of looks over his shoulder. He sees Shawn sitting there with these two other guys. And Robbie realizes this is his chance to strike first right here right now.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. So he does a running jump kick to Shawn's head, who

Sal Rodriguez:

one may call that a sucker punch. But I say but considering their history and considering the bullying that has taken place here. I give Robbie a pass in this instance.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, and it didn't blindside him he did run riot Adam wasn't like punching someone when they're looking the other way but it is on and now we're cutting back and forth to the laser tag fight with Miyagi dough and Cobra Kai and Sal, I just have to say it but everybody is kung fu fighting.

Sal Rodriguez:

And I love this because this is a double fight montage. We go back and forth golf and stuff. Sylmar juvenile detention center, golf and stuff. Sylmar juvenile detention center, back and forth, high speed, fantastic fight sequence. I was loving this. I was loving this fight sequence.

Jason Connell:

I wish we could have brought in a newer version, like a remix of the classic track.

Sal Rodriguez:

I think Cardi B is working on a new version of kung fu fighting.

Jason Connell:

Oh, that'd be great. But the fights great. And I even like the way that Robbie is doing these run up the wall techniques to get away. Yeah, loving that.

Sal Rodriguez:

That was great. Yeah, I'm especially loving the fact that Shawn is a bigger guy. So we're seeing Robbie, who's kind of sort of a smaller guy think, yeah, he's going head to head with Shawn out of his weight class. Also great. Speaking of weight class, Mitch and Chris going at back at golf and stuff. So wonderful sequences happening in this double fight montage.

Jason Connell:

So then Tori arrives with backup, and things shift, especially when she calls for Samantha.

Sal Rodriguez:

It's a throwback to when she grabbed the PA at West Valley High School. And she says Sam LORUSSO WHERE ARE YOU BITCH,

Jason Connell:

and Samantha Who was on the attack leading the troops begins to wither away. She can't even face Torah, which is kind of weird to me, Sal, because she did win that fight. But she just keeps remembering how close maybe she was too. I don't know, much more pain or maybe even death with the weapon that Tori had in her hand. So I'm not sure but it definitely stirs it up. And Samantha has bowed out of this brawl.

Sal Rodriguez:

I think it's one of these ideas that when your opponent pulls out something shiny and pointy. That's next level because what that means is they are willing to kill you. So Tori showed that she is willing to take it to that level. Samantha as fantastic a fighter as she is all the knowledge she has received from Daniel and possibly Mr. Miyagi. Is she willing to kill someone? I don't think so. So she realizes Tori is willing to go there. So even though she bested Tori, back at high school, Tori is still a definite threat.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, she is. And then this leads to hawk who takes Demetri down and has one of his arms kind of behind him and he's controlling Dimitri and Sal, this is taking things too far.

Sal Rodriguez:

The Cobra, Kai teammates could have just said alright, let them go. And let's get out of here. Instead, they are coaxing him and encouraging him. And due to their coaxing, Hawk breaks Dimitris arm and leaves Dimitri they're in a heap. But at the last second, we see Hawk turn back and looked down at Dimitri. And you can tell there's a moment where hawk has regret and sympathy. Can't show that weakness in front of the rest of the Cobra Kai is of course, but you can see it in his eyes. He just regrets what he just did.

Jason Connell:

Yes, he does. And Dimitri screaming and pain, and it's just hard to watch. That's a tough, tough sequence. He took it too far. He probably should have just thrown his hand down and kicked him one more time and walked away but he didn't. He fell victim to the pier. pressure of the moment and yeah, really, really tough thing to see.

Sal Rodriguez:

And as Tories walking out, she yells out this is an overload Russo and then we look over and there Sam still crying and cowering in a corner of this establishment.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. So now we're back in Okinawa and Daniel unchosen are parting ways and it's a great touching scene.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, because this is the moment we see Daniel and chosen make peace and again, all you Karate Kid fans, Karate Kid two fans. I say that especially because Karate Kid two is my favorite movie. I don't know who else out there agrees with me. Daniel and chosen make peace right here right now.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. And shows and says regret is sometimes difficult to overcome. And Daniel understands that. And he forgives chosen. And that meant a lot to chosen. It was really touching because chosen changed his life. We gave up on him. In fact, we talked about what maybe came have chosen at the end of our credit card Part Two special episodes, which I highly encourage you to check out. And never ever did. Either one of us see it going this way, Sal, I mean, they really gave chosen as well as Johnny on this show, for that matter, great redemption. And now here we are and seeing how he went to Sato and made things right. And has made his life all about giving back and honoring Miyagi dough, and just people in general. So it's just a beautiful story. And I just love seeing it. In fact, I'm kind of sad to see Chosun leave this episode. And Mike, are we gonna see him again? He's actually a really interesting guy. And I want to know him more. But before he goes, he gives Daniel what?

Sal Rodriguez:

He presents Daniel with the little scroll. And I like this again, a throwback to Karateka to you keep for your correction. Like he said to Kumiko about his shirt. Remember karate cut too. And like that, huh? Yes. Yeah. So that's a throwback line to that. And then Daniel receives this gift, which means so much, and then they give each other the gentle bow. And that's when we see that piece has been made between Daniel unchosen, it's official right here. Yeah.

Jason Connell:

And I'm assuming this scroll because he doesn't open it up. But I'm assuming it's the one with pressure points and this great ultimate technique in which we just discussed

Sal Rodriguez:

Yes, exactly, because we saw the the instruction manual of the crane technique. So this would be the little ancient instruction manual of the Miyagi pressure points, for sure.

Jason Connell:

So now we're at what looks to be backstage at a concert. And Johnny somehow gets access.

Sal Rodriguez:

I love that Johnny passes off Miguel as a sick kid, because the bouncer says, Come back when he's 21. And Johnny says, he'll be dead by then. He should be dead already. Every day is a gift.

Jason Connell:

And Miguel looks at him like, huh, I love that. So funny.

Sal Rodriguez:

Johnny would never say something like that. Every day is a gift.

Jason Connell:

It's really so good. So it works. And they let them in. And of course, we saw this on the trailer. This is a D Snyder off Twisted Sister Show. And he is singing the kids are back. And so Miguel is kind of like awestruck, like what's going on here. And Gianni even opens up I guess a bag or some sort of cooler, pulls out two beers. And he just wants to give and show Miguel a good time because he has not had any of that since the incident.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, and there are some cute girls around as a matter of fact, it would appear that the oldest two people in the room are Johnny Lawrence and Dee Snider himself. Everyone else is pretty young. As excited as it was to see Dee Snider. I'm thinking where's Twisted Sister and where's his makeup? So I guess he went on to a solo career after Twisted Sister.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, I guess so. So now we're back in the hospital and Sam breaks down as Amanda enters.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah. You know what? Mary Mauser does a fantastic job here crying. Oh, boy. I bought it. I totally bought it. Because at first Amanda walks in very angry, ready to pounce on Samantha. Another karate fight. What the hell are you thinking she is pissed. And Sam just completely breaks down mom. They broke Dimitris arm. I just wanted to show them we can't be bullied and she collapses into Amanda's arms. She said I couldn't do anything to help them.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, and I'm glad you pointed that out. She gives an incredible performance here real tears real emotional. And it's a quick Ain't, but it says everything. And yeah, we don't even see Demetri we know now he has a broken arm and he is in the hospital. A lot of hospital visits in the show, I must say. And now we're back in jail. And Robbie and Shawn have a quick exchange. And I guess this is really all about respect.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, because here they are walking out of they probably had some sort of hearing, because they have the guard behind them. And then they had some sort of bald guy look like an attorney maybe. And so they come out of this conference, and Robbie says, Why don't you talk? And Sean says, I'm no snitch, and Robbie says Me neither. And they pause for a second. Shawn gives him a quick up and down, and then a gentle approving nod. Shawn walks on and we get a close up of Robbie and we see a tiny grin as he watches Shawn walk away and I was a little confused at this very moment. Is Robbie happy that he has won the respect of Shawn? Or is he happy because he has tricked Shawn and Robbie has some sort of plan for Shawn up the road. I was little confused at that little moment. Yeah, I'm

Jason Connell:

not sure either. I like to think it's respect. But who knows Robbie can be quite cunning at times. So

Sal Rodriguez:

to be determined? Well, in this very moment, Robbie has Sean's respect. Yes, he does.

Jason Connell:

So now we're back to the concert and Dee Snider gives Miguel A shout out.

Sal Rodriguez:

He says I hear this a Make A Wish kid in the house tonight. Ladies, let's make that wish come true. And then he goes into I wanna rock now. Anybody that knows Dee Snider or Twisted Sister knows, I wanna rock might only be surpassed by we're not going to take it mainly. Oh, I forget one, two. That's that's a toss up. But he does I want to rock which is classic. As a matter of fact, I once entered a lip synching competition in elementary school. And did I want to rock and did the D Snyder vocals lip synching? We didn't win, by the way. But you know, I didn't have Johnny Lawrence on my side. So that's probably why.

Jason Connell:

If only there was a videotape of that performance. My VCR was broken. So while de Snyder's belting out I want to rock Miguel begins to do what?

Sal Rodriguez:

The camera goes down, and we see that Miguel's foot is tapping. That's right. Miguel is tapping his foot. His leg is moving, folks.

Jason Connell:

It's like that scene from the jerk when Steve Martin's character is laying in bed and he just starts tapping. And he knows like he has a purpose. And so it's really funny, but this is great because he doesn't even notice that Miguel doesn't notice it. Johnny looks down sees it has to pointed out to Miguel because it's very instinctual, doesn't even know it. So I guess I'll All it takes is some beer and Dee Snider. That'll get you tap on his feet again.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, this is what Johnny learned from WebMD. I'm sure that he read about the wonders of music. You know, all of us, I'm sure have read one article or another in recent years about the magic of music and how modern medicine is using music to reach people, people in comas, people who have Parkinson's or Alzheimer's music can do amazing things. Johnny read that online employed it and he got Miguel's foot tapping props to Johnny Lawrence.

Jason Connell:

Absolutely beautiful, same beautiful moment. And it's exciting to know that hey, Miguel will find his way out of the wheelchair this season. So this is a big, big moment for us all. So now we're back in Okinawa and Daniel meets up with Kimiko and Tomi Village Green and she has yet another person for Daniel to meet Sal and this time, it is one Yuna played by Tracy to Gucci. And why don't you tell us who unit is.

Sal Rodriguez:

If you think Daniel meeting Kumiko again Daniel meeting chosen again is amazing. Yes it is. Holy cow I almost fell off my chair when I saw this. This woman is the girl Daniel rescued from the bell tower in Karate Kid to during the storm. And she is now this woman Yuna is now Senior Vice President of Sales for dough Yoda International.

Jason Connell:

One believable.

Sal Rodriguez:

Wow.

Jason Connell:

And Kumiko then reiterates her aunt Yuki A's great advice basically saying that you put good out in the world and good comes back in. And here we are. Someone who can make a difference who is indebted to Daniel for what he did for her Many, many, many years ago, you know, would not be here. She could have been crushed by the ladder or some debris, she could have been electrocuted. But he showed great courage. And this is when chosen wouldn't even come out of the hiding place to help, which he showed real shame, shame, part one shame to being the fight to the death, and a beautiful moment. And just really when she said that, and she said, I'm here to help save your business. It's like, oh, my gosh, I had a flood of emotions. I was just like too much to bear. It's like how beautiful this was because Daniel came here on the brink of losing his business.

Sal Rodriguez:

We were blown away at what's happening in Okinawa. I mean, talk about going back in time.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. I do have one question though. She works for Toyota. Yes. Daniel saved her life.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yes.

Jason Connell:

Had she never looked him up before. He's got this West Coast empire. I just think you know, it's kind of her business just seems like she wouldn't LinkedIn him before. But

Sal Rodriguez:

well, so thought, Jason, if you're gonna go there could chosen not have looked up Daniel over the years to make an official apology to him.

Jason Connell:

He's probably going to wait for Daniel to show off. He's probably not seeking it. But yeah, but there's a business relationship intact there. That's all

Sal Rodriguez:

and imagine if it had been chosen that would have run out from the shelter to save Yuna, then this whole meeting would not be happening. She would be saving chosen business, whatever that is.

Jason Connell:

Larissa Auto Group is no more. So now we're at Cobra Kai dojo. And for the first time in history as far as we know. Amanda enters.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, yeah, because creases, they're creeping around. But at first he doesn't know that it's Amanda Russo. But it's only because she says something she references her daughter and the West Valley High bra. And that's when Chris says, What's the matter? Little Daniel's not mad enough to fight his own battles anymore. And I love this is total, sarcastic Amanda that we've grown to know and love. Hey, Rambo. I like that. Hey, Rambo. Kids are getting hurt. So Call off your band of karate thugs or I'm going to the police.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, and this leads to this slap of the decades now.

Sal Rodriguez:

I call this the slap heard around the world. I would only say its predecessor as far as infamy. Some of you got to be old enough to remember this. When Dominique slapped Alexis on dynasty, so huge in the world of entertainment. And nothing has equaled that until this very moment when Amanda slaps crease.

Jason Connell:

Nice. It's a great slap. Hayden said coming. His caught off guard. She struck first.

Sal Rodriguez:

She struck first. I love it. And by the way, I did read a headline that says that she did indeed slap. John Creasy it was an actual slap that he reacted to.

Jason Connell:

Oh, wow. Love it. So now we're at McGill's apartment and Carmen is elated that Miguel is able to move his foot.

Sal Rodriguez:

I love catching these little moments. And obviously the producers put that there for us to see. She's so excited about Miguel being able to move his foot. Johnny excuses himself walks back to his apartment. And do you see the look on Carmen's face? As Johnny is walking back? Carmen looks at Johnny. She is falling in love, folks. That's what's happening.

Jason Connell:

I have one question for you, Sal. Yes. Do you have timecode for the audience?

Sal Rodriguez:

You know what? I swear I thought of that. How do you want to give them additional homework but just pause right there. Pause When John is walking away. Carmen is standing there. So happy about Miguel moving his foot? Pause there. Look at her face. Not so dissimilar from Kumiko. Looking at Daniel here we have Carmen looking at Johnny. Yeah,

Jason Connell:

you pause a lot during your episodes. It must take you about three hours to get through an episode.

Sal Rodriguez:

You don't want to know first of all, I watch every episode at least three times. Sometimes even for one time for notes. Yeah, I'm all over the place. I do a lot of pausing. Play, pause, play, pause, play pause.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. And that's on the first viewing. So Johnny goes back home, opens his computer goes to Facebook because Miguel informed him earlier that it's also on your computer, not just the phone that he lost or threw away at the end of season two. And so he hasn't been on there in a while style because he never saw what happened. The moment he threw his phone in the sand.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, this whole time. He didn't know that he can access Facebook from his PC. He thought it was just located on his phone. He didn't see the friend request from out Les Mills Schwarber until right now, here he is he just saw the tongue selfie from the concert him and Miguel with their tongues giving the do devil sign. And then he checks the friend requests. It's ALi Mills Schwarber. I just want to say this if you look, the other names people you may know underneath ally Mills Schwarber. I want to give a shout out to these people Mallory Yan Aaron Schmidt, Len Kiko Telo Max putting them Dexter, Adriana. All real Facebook people, all people associated with Cobra Kai, all behind the scenes, people. Thank you for being there.

Jason Connell:

Well done. Yeah, it says on her profile, I've always wanted to be a doctor. Now I'm living the dream helping as many children as I can. And she is head of pediatric surgery at the Denver Hospital for Children. Props to you, Ali. And there's this great photo of her really great, and there's 53 likes. And Sal, I don't understand this for the life of me, but not one comment.

Sal Rodriguez:

52 likes and no comments. Sounds like one of my YouTube videos is what it sounds like before you even work your way down to this photo that he's falling back in love with. You see, her main cover photo is like a beautiful outdoor scene. And then you have two cute dogs. I figured you would appreciate that, Jason. And yeah, so you can see start to get into her life. And there's Johnny falling in love with Ali again.

Jason Connell:

So that's it. John is smiling as he takes this in. Is it a sign? We'll find out?

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, I'm exhausted from this episode. So much happened. So much happened in this episode, they went all over the place. So many different concurrent storylines. And it was

Jason Connell:

longer than most episodes. It was a few minutes longer of any episode this season. It's the halfway point. And yeah, it was a lot. Wait, a lot of people come back from Karate Kid part two, which was just really the highlight of this episode, to be honest. But even Yuna The interesting thing about her salad because when we did the credit card Part Two episode you even mentioned like at one point in time, like yeah, that girl, whatever happened to that girl? I never thought like, you know, usually when you're a kid actor and maybe a movie, it's like, yeah, and I'm gonna be an actor. But Tracy Taguchi is an actress. Yes. And I think it's just amazing that they went and got her they could have cast anybody who's gonna know the difference. But they did. They went and got the real article. And it just makes it so much more authentic.

Sal Rodriguez:
