Jason Connell:

Welcome to Just curious media. This is let's talk Cobra Kai. I'm Jason Connell.

Sal Rodriguez:

And I'm Sal Rodriguez.

Jason Connell:

All right, sound you sound a little further away out of the studio. Why don't you tell everybody exactly where you're at?

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, Jason, I'm at a very special place. I can't believe I'm here because I've never been here. This is off the beaten path. This is in the hills of Encino. And when I say in the hills, I mean, you know, so when I was growing up in the San Fernando Valley and I was catching the bus up and down Ventura Boulevard. There was only so far south of the boulevard where we would go I mean, you know, the rest was just, you know, hills and hills for miles. Well, here I am now in the hills, of Encino to a place I've never been at the intersection of Alonso Avenue and Lake Encino drive. It's sort of a T intersection for 072 Alonso Avenue. Yes, Jason. I am in front of Ali's house.

Jason Connell:

Oh my gosh, I've been there many times not inside. But there's a stop sign right in front of our house as well. Correct.

Sal Rodriguez:

There is a stop sign that I believe might have been removed when the Karate Kid was shot. The stop sign is right where if you remember where Daniel and his mother have their car parked, that's right where the stop sign in there's there's a gutter there in the curb that the car was kind of covering in the movie. But that gutter is there. that stop sign is there. And let me tell you something. Just the last 10 minutes I've been here I saw two cars blow through the stop sign in front of Ali's house. No respect. Oh my god blow right through. But I'm telling you the house is actually is just as impressive in the movie. Now here we are in the daytime in the movie, they were at night a little more lit up. A little prettier at night. But just as grand. And just as impressive. I'm happy to be here in front of Ali's house.

Jason Connell:

I love it. Yes, I've always been impressed as I've driven by it looks like it did in the 80s. And I do believe that stop sign was there in the movie, I'd have to go back and reference that. I don't like hearing the fact that they're disrespecting the mills and just whizzing through that stop sign. So please, caution to all drivers respect the stop sign.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, it's almost like a tip of the hat. that stop sign is such that if you stop at that stop sign and you just look over to the right. You're there you are stopped in front of Ali's house and Encino all these people don't realize that, especially the people who are blowing through it. I mean, really, you have a moment there, you can pause there, you can look over. And you can think to yourself, the mills. That's where the mills live. So it's a very special moment. And some of these people don't even realize,

Jason Connell:

you know, maybe you should go down or maybe we should go down to the inside

Sal Rodriguez:

another one. Jason Jason, another person just looked at the stuff said that was the third car who blew to the stop sign only in the last 10 minutes. What's going on with people sound? The fourth? Of course, hello? No. The fourth. I'm not making this up the fourth. It's like the stuff says not even there. Okay, um, you know what, if we see a fifth, I'm not even saying that because that's the fourth car in 10 minutes.

Jason Connell:

So I think you and I as part of Let's Talk Cobra Kai in the safety of Encino. We should go down to the city council and propose the fact that below the stop sign, they put another sign. And it says alley Mills house from the Karate Kid point to the right. And that way you get everyone to stop at least going that direction. We can put another one on the other side. So what do you think?

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, what you have to do is like a head of this sign. So as you're coming down the hill towards the house, and you're right, like sort of a slow down sign. 100 feet up. Alley Mills house right Karate Kid? Yeah. Yeah. Like a warning like a, you know, it could be like a state sort of a state monument, you know, with a special seal like signed by the governor. Yeah, I absolutely. They need to have that. We could put

Jason Connell:

them all over. Like it's an open house in the neighborhood. You know, like Allium Hills house up this way, then we're gonna have a lot of looky Loos, but at least they be going slow South not blowing through that stop sign. But bad driving aside. The reason why we're talking is because July 1, Netflix announced and not just announced but did this released The Karate Kid franchise on their platform.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, very exciting time. Absolutely exciting time right now. If you're a Netflix fan, you know, I mean, I've been around Netflix since the beginning. I mean, back before they release. Oh, yeah. back then. And and I always thought of the of the Netflix DVDs like like a Frisbee. I want to throw it back to them as soon as I can. Yeah. You know, and that way I'm able to maximize like if you can have like two or three DVDs. I want to throw them back and forth. So what I ended up getting, like 12 DVDs.

Jason Connell:

Exactly. Well, the reason this is significant. It's because the first time since Season Three came out since Netflix really started producing the show that all three movies Karate Kid, the Karate Kid, Part Two, The Karate Kid, Part Three are on the platform. And as a bonus, The Next Karate Kid was already on the platform. So now any young fan either trying to catch up or just prepare for season four, can go back to them. movies, and now go through because I'm sure so when season three came out, we probably had a lot of new Cobra Kai fans, they were able to go back and watch season one, season two, because Netflix, put those on their platform in August. And what happened Sal was in September of 2020, Netflix then let the franchise kind of fall off, you know, because they have to license this content. And they probably figured, hey, we'll take it off. So they brought it back now, which I think is fantastic. So, you know, you can gear up you can fill in the blanks because I wouldn't say every Cobra Kai fan knows the show like they know that series, unfortunately.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, Jason, if we might reference the WTF Marc Maron podcast that recently featured William Zabka. And Marc Maron, apparently was hit with some some flak from fans, when he told William Zabka that he hasn't really watched The Karate Kid.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, the original. Yeah, but he loves the show. Exactly. So

Sal Rodriguez:

a lot of people are in that position. I mean, look, when you when I first started podcasting, let's talk Cobra Kai, I hadn't seen the second or the third, or at least in years, I haven't seen them in decades. So yeah, everybody's where they're at. But this is a wonderful opportunity for you not only to watch the Karate Kid franchise, but to binge can binge watch The Karate Kid trilogy. You could see the fourth movie. I think also, the remake is on there as well. Well, I don't know about that. Okay, well, we'll see if the remake is on there. But this is a wonderful opportunity to binge Karate Kid. Really? I'm excited about that.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, me too. I'm probably going to do a deep dive again. It's fun to watch them really close together. When you do that. It's like, oh, wow, they did age a little bit. But you don't realize it when you watch it over time. And it's always fun to go back and see things because you will look at it differently. Because little nuances and things in the series will flag something in your mind. And you'll go back and be like, oh, yeah, like go back now and watch karate kid too. And the quick dismissal of ally mills. Case in point you're in front of her house right now. Oh, yeah. And they address that in season three of Cobra Kai, not to mention they visit the house in the show, and then make it real festive out front. So it's just a wonderful thing to be able to go back and forth and have a newfound love for the franchise as all Cobra Kai lovers should sell.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, Jason, I might I add something I just realized today. So when I saw the Karate Kid recently, in the last couple of years, the very beginning of the movie, when Daniel and his mother are driving across the country from New Jersey to Los Angeles. I recognize the don't I've been to Sedona many times. I said, that's the donor. Well, guess what, I'm going to call you again in a couple of weeks, because I'm going to be in Sedona and I'm going to be in the exact location where there motel was where Daniel and his mother were when they stayed in Arizona. I'm gonna be there in a few weeks. And I'm gonna call you just like I'm calling you right now in front of Ali's house and in Siena.

Jason Connell:

I love that. So I'm gonna raise the stakes one higher. Well, well, on my next East Coast trip, I'm going to go to New Jersey where no lo Russo said goodbye to friends and family. Oh, call you.

Sal Rodriguez:

That is so awesome. Really? Wait, have you been there before?

Jason Connell:

I've been to New Jersey, but I haven't been at that particular part. But my next trip out there. I'm going to do it.

Sal Rodriguez:

Oh, that'd be so awesome. That'd be better. That'd be so mad.

Jason Connell:

But I love your Sedona idea. Let's find that hotel or whatever they show in the movie. And let's have that call. Yes. Well, I don't want you to sit there and be a traffic cop all day. I hope no one else blows through that sign but it was just fun catching up. I've been by that house so many times. I've showed it off to people and I'm glad Sal that this is the first time that you've taken it in it kind of blows my mind.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, there's a particular spot where you can park don't park on Alonso Park on Lake Encino drive at the stop sign here. That's right here on Lake Encino drive and Alonso stop there. And my car is facing the house. So yeah, if you want to just sit in your car and face. I mean, jeez, you know, it'd be so amazing if you just drive up here one night and just have some popcorn and just sit here with some popcorn and just stare at

Jason Connell:

the house watch The Karate Kid on your phone.

Sal Rodriguez:

The neighbors may call the police but we'll have some fun for a little while.

Jason Connell:

So I'll be sure to take a photo too. So we have our proof but I know you will. And yeah, this has been fun. Also everybody do a deep dive benches Sal said watch The Karate Kid franchise watch Cobra Kai season one two and three again and hey, why not? Throw in The Next Karate Kid and salvo watch it with you?

Sal Rodriguez:

I will watch it I'll tell you what everybody if you watch it

Jason Connell:

Alright, so I will be careful. Don't get on to too many drivers and we'll talk again soon.

Sal Rodriguez:

All right, Jason. chat soon. No Mercy.
