Episode 05: Cobra Kai - S01E04 - Cobra Kai Never Dies

[00:00:00] JC
: Welcome to Just Curious Media. This is Let’s Talk - Cobra Kai. I’m Jason Connell,  documentary film maker, churn podcaster.

[00:00:07] SR: I’m Sal Rodriquez, toy collector and comedian.

[00:00:10] JC: All right.

[00:00:11] SR: But we’ll see how much of a comedian I am.

[00:00:13] JC: Not that funny. More of a toy collector in this show. So here we are, this is episode 4: Cobra Kai Never Dies. Good title.

[00:00:23] SR: No mercy.

[00:00:24] JC: It’s 8.5 rating on IMDB. This episodes starts with Robby, Johnny’s son. He’s working at TechTown. He’s working there and a customer comes in and drops off a laptop, and Robby seems like a really decent guy and says, “Hey, I’ll fix your computer. What’s your password?” The customer looks at his shirt and says, “Thanks, Eduardo.” Immediately, something’s off.

[00:00:47] SR: Yes.

[00:00:48] JC: He’s like super nice. Customer walks away, and what does Robby do?

[00:00:53] SR: Roby takes off with the laptop. Goes to the back of the building. Gives it to his hoodlum buddies. So we realized then and there that it was all a scam. He doesn’t really work at the store. He just took this guy’s laptop.

[00:01:05] JC: And there isn’t Eduardo, and he throws his shirt to him and says, “Thanks, Ed.”

[00:01:09] SR: Yeah.

[00:01:09] JC: So we know Robby is a bad guy. He’s already gone on some sort of craigslist. Posted the computer to sell it and his buddies were saying, “Yeah. Hey, have three people Venmo you, and the first one gets the computer.” So they’re going to scam other people to sell the computer to.

[00:01:24] SR: Yeah, these guys are doing scams. They’re doing stolen merchandize scams, Venmo scams. These guys are hoodlums scamming people. These kids are misguided. Obviously, look how Robby grew up.

[00:01:35] JC: Robby didn’t have a dad.

[00:01:36] SR: So you got to cut him some slack. He’s a juvenile delinquent. He might be able to turn a corner.

[00:01:42] JC: Yeah. I’m not saying he can’t come back from this, but right now he’s acting out.

[00:01:46] SR: Oh, they’re punks.

[00:01:47] JC: So we cut to Robby’s going to skate off with the laptop. He sees a flyer on the ground. Picks it up. Sure as anything, it’s the Cobra Kai flyer. What I really liked about it was you saw the address to the Cobra Kai Dojo, which is 25002 Victory Boulevard Van Nuys, California 91401.

[00:02:07] SR: Nice. I missed that. Did you Google it?

[00:02:09] JC: I Googled it and it said – Someone had put a pen that says Cobra Kai Dojo, but I did a street view, and there’s nothing there.

[00:02:17] SR: Was there a Reseda Flats?

[00:02:19] JC: Well, yeah, but it’s not called Reseda Flats.

[00:02:20] SR: Is it an actual strip mall?

[00:02:22] JC: There is a little mall there, yes.

[00:02:24] SR: Oh, wow! That’s cool. I didn’t [inaudible 00:02:25].

[00:02:26] JC: But I love seeing the address. So I paused it and it was like, “Oh, I’ve got to write that down.”

[00:02:29] SR: I love the address.

[00:02:30] JC: Yeah, as you should. Johnny is drunk, which is not a surprise for the season thus far, and he’s got his flyers in hand and we’re flashing back to when he jumped off Miguel and how upset his mother was that this wounded son of hers, obviously his responsibility.

[00:02:48] SR: Just adult, took your son to the dance as his chaperone.

[00:02:50] JC: Yeah, he was chaperoning.

[00:02:52] SR: Yeah. Then meanwhile your son comes back a broken mess.

[00:02:54] JC: Exactly. So then Johnny spots the LaRusso Auto billboard. There’s someone with a spray can.

[00:03:02] SR: Yeah, there’s a guy tagging on a wall with a spray can.

[00:03:04] JC: Tagging something. Gives him some beers for the spray can, and we’ll find out what Johnny did. So now, cut to Daniel’s driving to work. Sees his billboard, and there’s what on it?

[00:03:18] SR: There is a spray-painted giant penis headed straight for Daniel LaRusso’s mouth. I was actually surprised to see it. This show pushes envelopes. It does.

[00:03:29] JC: It does.

[00:03:29] SR: It does. In fact, some of the things they do and some of the things they say, I’m surprised.

[00:03:34] JC: This is YouTube, baby.

[00:03:35] SR: Yeah, it’s a new era. I love it. I love the freedom. So he sees the giant penis and he flips out.

[00:03:42] JC: Typical. Typical Daniel. But, yeah, that is a pretty great scene. So now we cut back to Miguel still in pain. Mother is not happy. But his grandmother is fine with him continuing his training.

[00:03:54] SR: The mother says no more karate, but the grandmother is totally into it. By the way, the grandmother speaks Spanish only, and there are subtitles. The mother is bilingual, and I think we’re to assume maybe Miguel only speaks English. We don’t hear him speak in Spanish.

[00:04:08] JC: I hadn’t picked up on that. But he must communicate with his grandmother.

[00:04:11] SR: I know people who grew up American-Mexicans, third generations, second generation, who could not communicate with their own grandparents. Maybe not even just Mexican-Americans.

[00:04:21] JC: No Spanglish?

[00:04:21] SR: No! You know what? I knew some people who had parents come over from the old country, or grandparents rather only speak Yiddish. They can’t communicate with their grandparents in Yiddish. So if you noticed, I could have sworn. We did not see Miguel speaking Spanish at all. So the mother’s kind of the go between.

[00:04:41] JC: That’s a good point. So Johnny has passed out after that horrible night, after the Halloween dance. He gets another call from Robby’s school.

[00:04:50] SR: Yeah, the vice principal.

[00:04:51] JC: Now Robby has skipped a month of school.

[00:04:54] SR: I think the son told the school that he and his father are going on a whitewater rafting trip, right?

[00:05:00] JC: Yeah.

[00:05:00] SR: Yeah. So he lies to the school. Says he and his dad are taking off. The vice principal calls up, “Hey, sorry to interrupt your vacation whitewater rafting.” I was almost wondering if she didn’t even buy it herself.

[00:05:12] JC: No. I think the vice principal knows that she’s dealing with a real – What do you say? Punk?

[00:05:16] SR: With absent parents.

[00:05:18] JC: Yes, we find out more about the mother shortly. So Miguel runs into Johnny at the apartment complex and learns he’s shutting down Cobra Kai. There’s no more money. There’s no students. He’s lost his one and only loyal student and his head sales man and marketer.

[00:05:35] SR: And web designer.

[00:05:37] JC: And web designer and all of that. So we’re back the school. Aisha and Sam have a quick exchange, but it’s obvious that Aisha is still quite upset.

[00:05:46] SR: Yes.

[00:05:46] JC: Then she walks out of frame. She’s hurt.

[00:05:49] SR: You could tell how conflicted Samantha is. She wants to be with the cool kids, but she does still have affection for her childhood friend.

[00:05:56] JC: There’s no bringing her into that, because Yasmine and [inaudible 00:05:59] would just not have it.

[00:06:01] SR: You know what? I can so relate to this feeling, this aura, because when I was in junior high, one of my best childhood friends, Kiwan. But by the time we made our way into junior high, Kiwan had become a Crip. There was a moment where these Crips were about to jump me and Kiwan came and rescued mea and said, “Leave him alone,” and they walked off together. He looked back at me, and we both knew that we’ll always be friends, but that that was a turning point. When Kiwan walked away, that was it. I never saw him again.

[00:06:31] JC: You never saw him again?

[00:06:31] SR: No. Never saw him again.

[00:06:32] JC: He never came back to school?

[00:06:34] SR: I don’t remember seeing him after that. So I totally relate to those moments where the teenager kind of has to choose sides.

[00:06:41] JC: A lot more stake in your relationship. This Aisha-Sam thing is more of a can’t buy me love PG type thing.

[00:06:49] SR: No Crips or Bloods.

[00:06:50] JC: No. No life at stake yet. So Aisha walks off, and now Kyler enters frame and they’re talking about their movie date.

[00:06:58] SR: Yes. But meanwhile, one of Kyler’s buddies, this would be behind the back of Samantha. Does the BJ sign.

[00:07:06] JC: Oh, yes. Classic.

[00:07:07] SR: Oh! He does the classic BJ sign.

[00:07:09] JC: This kid would have fit in a varsity blues just fine.

[00:07:12] SR: One of these bullies who rides on the coattails of the top bully. So he’s like a secondary or a third bully. He’s not the top bully. Then Kyler gives the guy the, “Oh, yeah. Yeah, this is going to happen.” So poor Samantha in this moment.

[00:07:25] JC: She’s also ignoring text messages from her father.

[00:07:29] SR: His texting this daughter at this moment. He wants to communicate with her, because they had a little falling out about his mistrust of Kyler.

[00:07:35] JC: Now we’re back at LaRusso Auto, and someone has sent them 100 sausages for lunch. Probably because they’ve seen the hilarious billboard on the [inaudible 00:07:44] boulevard with the large penis to his mouth.

[00:07:47] SR: Yeah. So somebody thought it was a great prank to send 100 sausages to LaRusso.

[00:07:52] JC: So we’ve come to find out that it’s his competitor, Cole’s Auto. So now Daniel, upset about that, has his crew, which includes one of his top salesman and his cousin up on the billboard to paint over the penis. I also find out that somebody took a deuce up there.

[00:08:10] SR: Yes, because at first he steps in and he’s like, “Oh! I stepped on a dog shit.” He’s like, “How would a dog get up here?”

[00:08:15] JC: Is it too far-fetched to think that you could just have anybody go up and repaint a billboard? Doesn’t seem like a bit of a safety issue?

[00:08:23] SR: Think about this. How did Johnny get up there in the first place?

[00:08:26] JC: Well, illegally. This is during the middle of the day. They got little painting outfits on. Have then even gone to any classes?

[00:08:33] SR: No. They had no safety harnesses on. Okay. I think in real-life you’d have to call up Gannett Outdoor and be like, “Ugh, my billboard was vandalized,” and they would send their workers in a few weeks.

[00:08:44] JC: Yeah. You wouldn’t send your top salesman and your cousin, but it makes for a better scene. So now we’re at Robby’s apartment with his punk friends and they have the laptop.

[00:08:55] SR: And now they’re watching the twerking.

[00:08:56] JC: They’re watching twerking. Correct me if I’m wrong, they’re rolling joints?

[00:09:01] SR: I missed the joints.

[00:09:02] JC: There’s a lot constant bang on the door, and it’s Johnny. Because Robby’s mother is nowhere to be found. So Johnny now kind of coming out of his 35 years stupor, and confronts Robby.

[00:09:15] SR: Yeah! You know what? He’s trying to be a dad. But you would have to use the softer approach if this were real-life. You’d have to try to appeal to your kid in a softer, gentler manner, as supposed to trying to operate out of, “I’m your dad.”

[00:09:27] JC: Right. Robby even defends his mother in this sequence. So Johnny leaves and –

[00:09:32] SR: I was hoping that Johnny would kick Robby’s friend’s ass. I was hoping for that. But, yup, didn’t happen.

[00:09:39] JC: But those guys didn’t push him either. They knew their place.

[00:09:41] SR: Yeah, they didn’t. They were just being smart aleck. So I think they made some smart aleck remarks or laughing at inappropriate times.

[00:09:46] JC: They just wanted to get high and watch more twerking.

[00:09:48] SR: That was an actress twerking. That was a professional twerker in the video.

[00:09:52] JC: Right. Obviously.

[00:09:54] SR: She was good.

[00:09:55] JC: So now we’re in the school library and Miguel is informing Dmitri and Eli that he’s done with karate.

[00:10:02] SR: Well, his mother said that’s it. It’s over. His friends are like, “Oh, good.”

[00:10:04] JC: Yeah, good. Quit talking about that karate stuff.

[00:10:07] SR: Yeah, one of their friends were like, “Ugh, yeah. It’s giving you a sense of confidence.”

[00:10:11] JC: Yeah, which isn’t good around here.

[00:10:12] SR: No. You don’t want that.

[00:10:13] JC: Which we don’t like. Then Kyler, of course, he’s everywhere. Re-emerges and confronts all of them again.

[00:10:21] SR: Yeah, and he grabs Dmitri’s backpack, throws it in the garbage. I mean, just total bully stuff.

[00:10:27] JC: Yup. But what he doesn’t know is Samantha is behind a row of books and oversees Kyler and really his true character. I love seeing people getting caught, because she wouldn’t have believed it otherwise, but there’re two different Kylers.

[00:10:40] SR: No. I got to admit, I was thinking right before we see Samantha. I was thinking to myself someone was filming that, like there was somebody with a hidden camera or with their phone. We don’t see it. Then we see Samantha even better.

[00:10:51] JC: Yeah. Well, the way they were painting it, I thought she was around the corner as well. I was pleasantly surprised it was good to see that she saw it for herself, and she’s a smart enough girl. It was obvious that something was a little off with him. Then there it was, her proof.

So Miguel’s mother comes and picks him up from school, feeling back for her son. He’s moping around. Not feeling good. He’s not in Cobra Kai anymore.

[00:11:14] SR: No. He just says I want to go home.

[00:11:15] JC: Just wants to go home. So back at LaRusso Auto, there’s a marketing meeting. We learned from Amanda that back in the day, karate in the valley was like football in Texas, which kind of goes back to our Karate Kid episode. How we said that for Daniel to be this successful for winning an under 18 tournament seemed a little far-fetched. But maybe back in the 80s, they put you on a pedestal if you won that tournament.

[00:11:44] SR: Yes.

[00:11:44] JC: So this mean he doesn’t go great. They show Daniel a video from the competitor.

[00:11:51] SR: Cole’s.

[00:11:51] JC: Cole’s, who he just got these hundred sausages. So he’s assuming that he was responsible for the penis on the billboard.

[00:12:00] SR: Yeah, I think he’s thinking that.

[00:12:01] JC: He also in the video, you see Cole’s do the cactus giveaway, which is a knockoff of the bonsai giveaway.

[00:12:09] SR: It would be the car dealership equivalent of a rap disc video.

[00:12:13] JC: Exactly.

[00:12:14] SR: It was him basically dissing LaRusso’s style.

[00:12:18] JC: So Daniel exists this meeting. Heads straight for Cole’s Auto.

[00:12:23] SR: I love that.

[00:12:25] JC: So now we’re at a bar and we get to know Robby’s mother.

[00:12:29] SR: We don’t even know that’s Robby’s mother when the scene first opens. We just see a woman at a bar with a guy.

[00:12:33] JC: But we do know that she’s a bit of a drinker, a bit of a lush, and a bit of a barfly.

[00:12:39] SR: Barfly, yes. I like that word. That’s an 80s word also.

[00:12:43] JC: 80s movie. Then Johnny arrives and he’s upset. He’s blaming her for being a bad mother, a little unfair. At least she didn’t checkout, right? I mean, she has her flaws, but at least she raised Robby to the best of her ability.

[00:12:57] SR: She was there.

[00:12:58] JC: But Johnny in this moment does offer to raise Robby.

[00:13:02] SR: Wow! Yeah.

[00:13:03] JC: So that was a big moment for him.

[00:13:05] SR: I would say so, yes.

[00:13:06] JC: I’ll take care of him. I’ll make him go to school. So he’s really –

[00:13:09] SR: Yeah, but then the mother poopoos at oh yeah, with what father skills, what dad skills are you going to raise. So even though he volunteers to all of a sudden be a dad. The mom’s like, “Oh, yeah. Right.”

[00:13:21] JC: But it wasn’t a false proclamation. I could tell that Johnny seems sincere and he’s trying, but I like why this is going on. Her date is a nice enough guy. He’s respectful of Johnny, but he doesn’t know what to think. It was kind of humorous to see.

[00:13:35] SR: I do like that he continued he date though.

[00:13:36] JC: Oh, yeah.

[00:13:37] SR: Because you remember when Johnny makes a wise crack about, “Oh, she’ll only blow you if you buy her desert.” That day was probably like, “Oh. Oh. Well, do have a pretty good desert menu.”

[00:13:45] JC: I guess red pudding. Okay. So now we’re at Cole’s Auto. Daniel confronts Tom Coles.

[00:13:53] SR: Daniel walks right into the showroom floor when – What’s his name?

[00:13:57] JC: Tom.

[00:13:59] SR: Tom is showing a new customer a car right in that moment, and he has boba in his hand.

[00:14:03] JC: Oh, yeah. He’s real proud of the boba, because they make bobas on site.

[00:14:07] SR: That’s the big thing for the sky, Tom Cole, is this boba. That’s his little thing that he does, is he offers his clients and new customers his boba. So he has a boba in his hand, offers it to the new customer. She walks off and then Daniel LaRusso –

[00:14:18] JC: Offers Daniel one.

[00:14:19] SR: Oh, I love that.

[00:14:21] JC: Tom is just bathing Daniel and they kind of makeup, and Tom offers him a boba. Daniel politely declines the boba. Says he’s full.

[00:14:32] SR: In this moment we think there’s maybe some peace in this moment.

[00:14:34] JC: Exactly, but he says he’s full. So what does Tom say to that?

[00:14:38] SR: Tom says, “You must be full after eating all that dick.”

[00:14:43] JC: There you have it.

[00:14:45] SR: That moment is when you realize, “Oh! This guy, Tom.”

[00:14:48] JC: He’s just too proud of himself, too cocky. Daniel looks to leave. Comes back. Does a spinning heel kick. Knocks the boba out of Tom’s hands, splashes everywhere. That’s a great sequence. That’s a great kick.

[00:15:05] SR: I love that kick. Do you think that was Ralph Macchio, or was that a stunt?

[00:15:07] JC: I think it was Ralph Macchio.

[00:15:08] SR: Really?

[00:15:09] JC: Everybody’s in shock, because Tom was even doubting the history of Daniel.

[00:15:13] SR: Oh, yeah. He’s like, “Oh! You did karate. Oh, yeah. Right.”

[00:15:16] JC: So that shut him up, shut everyone up, and Daniel probably needed to do that to squash any of that rivalry right then and there.

[00:15:23] SR: Well, then. Remember then, if that was Ralph Macchio doing that kick. He’s what? 58 doing that kick?

[00:15:28] JC: He’s not 58.

[00:15:29] SR: Yeah. How old is Ralph Macchio?

[00:15:31] JC: There’s no way he’s 58.

[00:15:32] SR: Ralph Macchio, according to my notes, was born in 1961.

[00:15:39] JC: What? He’s 58. He looks great.

[00:15:42] SR: He does look great. What I’m saying is if that were him doing that kick, it’s even more fantastic.

[00:15:46] JC: My hunch is it was Ralph Macchio. But regardless, it’s such a great scene. But to your point, I had no idea about Ralph Macchio was 58. A, he looks great. If that was him, good on him.

[00:15:58] SR: By the way, since he’s 58, his wife, if you do the math, his wife was 38 on the show. If you just go by their true ages, if you believe that the actors are portraying their true ages. So Ralph Macchio, or should I say, Daniel is dating, or his wife rather, is 20 years younger than him.

[00:16:16] JC: Daniel son, wax on, wax off. Left to circle. Right to circle. Okay. So now we’re in the movie theater, and Sam is still upset with Kyler, which I don’t understand this, is that they get all the way in the theater. They get the tickets. They get the seats and she’s just harboring this resentment, and finally it comes out.

[00:16:37] SR: As soon as the scene opens, you see the body language.

[00:16:39] JC: He’s trying to get fresh. Kyler is just – You can tell this guy is a punk. He makes a move, his arm around her. She doesn’t want to deal with it. She says, “I saw what you did.” He’s like, “Oh, no! Those guys are my friends. I was playing around.” Then he doubles down. He comes in hot and heavy, putting his hands on her legs.

[00:16:57] SR: Puts the hand on the inner thigh.

[00:16:59] JC: Like, “Whoa!” So what does she do?

[00:17:01] SR: She does some karate moves.

[00:17:02] JC: More like Steven Seagal moves.

[00:17:04] SR: Yeah, because they were up close. It’s what they call fighting in a phone booth.

[00:17:07] JC: And defensive. Just puts him down, and he’s embarrassed and she walks out of the theater and exit the scene. You could tell Kyler is like, “Oh, wow! That’s the end of that.”

[00:17:18] SR: Yeah, those moves were fantastic.

[00:17:20] JC: Great sequence. You know right then and there that she really had training from Daniel. Although we saw a little bit of that in the earlier episodes, like a flashback, her as a little kid. But that’s when I knew that we’re going to see more from Sam in the future, because she’s really deep down Daniel’s offspring.

[00:17:38] SR: Yeah, because I have forgotten about the scene of Daniel training her in the dojo years past. I’ve forgotten about that, until that moment where I thought, “Oh! Samantha can kick ass.”

[00:17:47] JC: She knows some moves. So now were at a diner, and this is a really good scene, Sal. Johnny oversees a touching moment between a father and a son sharing an ice cream sundae. He did a great job in that scene, because he’s kind of tearing up. He’s seeing something he never got to experience, and that’s on him, and he knows it’s on him. So that leads to the very next scene, cut to him, and we see Johnny apologizing to who we don’t know yet, and apologizing for not being there. He wants to do better. Seeing this, I knew who he was talking to. I’d figured it out, but did you know?

[00:18:30] SR: I knew only because I’m highly intelligent.

[00:18:33] JC: That’s what I thought.

[00:18:34] SR: But otherwise, I think it’s easy to assume he’s talking to his ex, or talking to the son. You would think that automatically. The kneejerk reaction would be that’s who he’s talking to.

[00:18:43] JC: Right back to Robby’s mom and says, I’m going to do my [inaudible 00:18:45] and be a good father.” But he’s actually talking to Miguel’s mother.

[00:18:49] SR: Yes.

[00:18:50] JC: Because he’s probably growing closer to Miguel in the last month, two months and he has Robby in ears. It was still touching though.

[00:18:58] SR: This also reminds me of these guys that maybe have this first son, and then whatever was supposed to happen didn’t happen. Like me. Okay, I’m talking about me. So my dad had me, and then I grew up without him. But then he had another son, who’s about 15 years younger than me.

[00:19:16] JC: Oh, the good son.

[00:19:17] SR: The good son. That’s the son that he has a relationship with. It was too late for whatever we were supposed to have. So, yeah. So Johnny did realize in that moment though. Seeing the touching moment with the father and the son, but then realized it’s too late. So then it goes back to Miguel’s family.

[00:19:36] JC: Sal, we can talk about this all day.

[00:19:39] SR: I’ll pay you 55 for a 50-minute session.

[00:19:44] JC: So, really nice though. He wants to be there for Miguel. He knows Miguel has no father, and he’s already really developed a relationship with him. The mother sees he’s genuine. He didn’t get Miguel hurt maliciously.

[00:19:56] SR: Well, because he pleads. He walks away. The mother goes back in. The grandmother says in Spanish, “I like him.” She says I like him in Spanish. So the grandmother trusted Johnny when the mother was against Johnny. The grandmother was onboard with Johnny and has been onboard with Johnny.

[00:20:14] JC: Exactly. So now we’re at LaRusso’s household for breakfast. The last time we had this sequence, Sam had completely ignored Daniel. But this time she’s come down stairs. She’s happy and engaged. She wants her special pancakes. So Daniel is super excited to see this and kicks into gear. You could tell they have a very special bond. First born. He’s obviously trained her in karate. He’s much closer to her than his son.

[00:20:41] SR: Yeah. The son relationship is kind of an odd one. Daniel’s not that close with his son. I don’t even know if the mom is that close with the son.

[00:20:47] JC: Maybe there’ll be development there. But right now, the mother of this episode though, on that note, acts more like a stepmother in these scenes, because it’s Daniel having the heart-to-heart with the daughter. The mother comes across more like it’s not her offspring.

[00:21:02] SR: Interesting.

[00:21:03] JC: I’m not saying that’s what’s going on, but maybe just really wanted to force the Daniel relationship with the daughter maybe to establish that.

[00:21:10] SR: The actress that portrays Amanda, Courtney Henggeler, originally from New Jersey. So here we are back to the original Karate Kid again. I wonder if that’s going to become a part of the storyline at all that maybe she was like a hometown girl or something at one time.

[00:21:25] JC: Yeah, it’s true. Daniel is from New Jersey.

[00:21:27] SR: Or I just thought that was a coincidence.

[00:21:29] JC: If you don’t believe it, watch the Karate Kid and then listen to our special episode. So now we’re back at the Cobra Kai Dojo and Johnny is packing up the trophies, and Miguel shows up and he’s got some big news.

[00:21:42] SR: My mom says I can train again.

[00:21:44] JC: Boom! Back in business baby.

[00:21:47] SR: Because moments earlier, Johnny’s packing up his trophies. He’s taking off plaques off the wall, whatever. He’s packing up. He says, “This is it. It’s over.”

[00:21:53] JC: That’s it. But he’s got one student, so he’s got help. So he’s excited by this, and he comes up to Miguel and he says, “I’ve got to teach you better defense. That’s why you got beat up the other night. The best defense is a good offense.”

[00:22:08] SR: Yes. He says to Miguel, “Are you ready to take it to the next level?”

[00:22:13] JC: Oh man!

[00:22:13] SR: How good is Miguel going to get? Is he going to use his anger to his advantage or going to use his anger? It’s going to go against him? It’s like what’s going to happen with Miguel as a student? What’s going to happen with Johnny as a sensei? Where is this dynamic going to go? How will they both blossom on their roles? I’m big time looking forward to see what happens of this.

[00:22:33] JC: Let me tell you what happens.

[00:22:35] SR: Don’t spoil it.

[00:22:35] JC: Oh, sorry. So now Daniel is driving to work. The penis has gone off the billboard. He’s happy.

[00:22:42] SR: Everything’s back to normal in his life he thinks, right? Kyler is gone. He’s happy at this moment. He did that awesome kick at Cole’s dealership. He’s a happy camper at this moment.

[00:22:52] JC: So he goes into work and his best salesman says –

[00:22:57] SR: I found these flyers. What? Up on the billboard or near the billboard?

[00:23:01] JC: Up on the billboard.

[00:23:02] SR: Okay. Johnny goes up on the billboard, paints the penis. Leaves flyers.

[00:23:07] JC: But he also took a dump.

[00:23:08] SR: They do all that on purpose?

[00:23:10] JC: Well, he was drunk.

[00:23:11] SR: Okay. He’s got some balls here. He takes a dump on the billboard, draws a penis and drops his flyers and then they show, “Daniel, look. Look what we found up there.” That’s another one of those moments where Daniel starts to go, “Oh!”

[00:23:25] JC: I knew it. The Cobra Kai is the worse. Now he knows it wasn’t Cole. It was Johnny, and he just assumes that Johnny has it out for him.

[00:23:34] SR: His cousin eggs him on, “What are we going to do about this?”

[00:23:40] JC: That’s it. Episode 4. It’s a wrap.

[00:23:44] SR: Oh! What happens? I need to know what happens. The suspense is killing me.
