Jason Connell:

Whoa, just curious. Welcome to Just curious media. This is let's talk Cobra Kai. I'm Jason Connell.

Sal Rodriguez:

And I'm Sal Rodriguez.

Jason Connell:

All right, so we are back for our third super fun. Kind of a quicker episode a preview Episode Four a recent interview that I did,

Sal Rodriguez:

yes. And nothing against our other interviews. I love them all. And you've done a great job. Thanks. But this is pretty big.

Jason Connell:

This is big time. This goes back to the Karate Kid. Wow. Because out of nowhere, I we received a few messages from one. Darrell Verdell. V. They their adult, all Valley karate champion. 1981 was also in the semis in 1984, as we know, but he wrote us on social media and I just got this message one day not that long ago. And one said there's two messages. One said I just stumbled onto your Karate Kid review of me loads of fun. I saw that one second. I was like, Wait, this is really from Darryl Madonna.

Sal Rodriguez:

Or I just somebody using the name of using his name.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, because those of you who do not know Darryl Fidel is his real name playing Darryl Vidal in the movie.

Sal Rodriguez:

In fact, I don't think anyone else has done that.

Jason Connell:

Right. Now that is like next level. I mean, Dutch could have been McQueen. Yeah. Chad McQueen, but he didn't. So and then there was this bigger message, which really caught my eye and I reached out to you right away, and it says, This is awesome, guys. You're right. The last laurenson 84 was pathetic. I must have taken the third place trophy in 84. But you can see me congratulating Daniel after his win. Let me know if you want me to come on your podcast. Wow, very Hello. And you can see Darrell Fidel and Freddie and friends all congratulating Daniel at the end of the Karate Kid. And of course Johnny gives him the trophy. But I was blown away to see this. And that's when I knew we're not being pumped. We're not being catfished This is Darrell Madol.

Sal Rodriguez:

That would be funny if we I mean, it wouldn't be funny. But it would be funny if we were being catfished.

Jason Connell:

We're here we are live like this. But he reached out to me. I wrote him back we set up a time it was during the day. Again, he is on west coast. But it was early. So logistically, it gets easier for me just to do it. And then we come on and do like a preview episode. So it was a few weeks ago. It's coming out shortly. But I like these little setups that you and I do we bring some energy awareness and just a little preview for the episode to come. But

Sal Rodriguez:

it's also exciting for me, you know, exactly. It's me prepared and ready. Yeah, I'm ready for it.

Jason Connell:

Well, we talked for nearly an hour, it was a ton of fun. We went into how he got into martial arts, how he got involved with the Karate Kid. So the story will blow your mind. It's something like happens, elicit a different era. He thinks he's going to try out and maybe be in the mood and meanwhile he Well, you've seen the movie he was in is a martial arts guru. He was the right age at the time. You know, you were older playing younger in your acting career when you were like high school to be had you say it exactly.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, when I was a high schooler I faked it as an adult as a high schooler. And then when I was an adult, I faked it as a high schooler. Yeah, so I did both on both. You

Jason Connell:

flipped it. You flipped it around. Yeah, I know. You've told me that before. It's like, yeah, you're on Nano, too. I know as a younger kid, but as you got older you play in a younger kid. Yeah. There's

Sal Rodriguez:

a lot to be said for being in the right place at the right time. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was talking about Conan. Yep. But you got to be out there. You got to put yourself out there to catch those little moments of luck, right?

Jason Connell:

Yeah, it was interesting because he was competing, doing lots of codons and fighting and was seen by those behind the scenes of the Karate Kid. And here it is why look further. Here's Darrell Vidal in front of you. And he talks about that, and in learning he's in this movie and where it is then and where it's now and his love for Cobra Kai. And Sal. He also told me he trains with one bad boy from the original movies

Sal Rodriguez:

really so present day he trains with one of the bad boys the original movies. Wait a second. I wonder if it's a tickets Dutch?

Jason Connell:

No, no, no. From the third film from the third ad boy. Oh, Mike Barnes, Mike Barnes. And I didn't press him on. Could Mike Barnes being Cobra Kai, he was like, I can't say anything. He's like, don't even worry, because I've already had my suspicions that we're gonna see. Mike Barnes. I was on record saying that for last season, but darn it, Sal, it's gonna come true. At some point,

Sal Rodriguez:

well, you know, I gotta credit Darrell the doll because, you know, like he's under no obligation officially to be tight lipped. He's No, he doesn't have a gag order. He can say whatever the heck he wants,

Jason Connell:

unless there have adult shows up and oh, no, I don't know. Well, in season five, he didn't say anything. But I'm thinking how is he not? He's talked about in the show crease gives him high praise. We talked about that. We talked about what he talked about in his message about what we talked about on that whole episode that we broke down about Darrell Madol. By the way, those who have not listened to it or watched it on YouTube.

Sal Rodriguez:

It's a very special episode and I'm not just saying that sitting here is close to Let's Talk Cobra Kai. It is a very special episode. Any fan of the Cobra Kai Karate Kid universe has to appreciate an episode like that. It's really special.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, we broke down his entire Darrell muddles entire all Valley you know where he came from the fighting and his lineage? Because we learned in Cobra Kai that he wanted at one we didn't know that in the Karate Kid. There was no reference to all areas of previous champ No, because they were just making a movie. They weren't coming in with all this data points and information they

Sal Rodriguez:

have they didn't know at that time that they would need a backstory

Jason Connell:

now on day. No. But he is quickly dismissed in the semis. Verse Johnny because they had to make Johnny look invincible. Right. You had to quickly dismiss this

Sal Rodriguez:

kid get get get too wrapped up in some of these sports? No, because if

Jason Connell:

you're like, Oh, are we for Johnny in this scene, or no Johnny had to look like no one can be if he can be that guy. No one's beating this guy. Right. And of course, the doll is part of the Montage. And we see like, Oh, that guy making this great kick. He wasn't a Cobra Kai, but he had a white giyani stood out and looked apart. And we talked about that and his brothers and training and how he got into martial arts and just where he is now. And it was just, it was everything. I hoped it would be so so this is a chance to get you excited to get our fans excited. And I cannot wait to drop that episode.

Sal Rodriguez:

I can't wait to hear it. I've been doing a lot of driving lately. Oh, yeah. And I've been missing my just curious media content. I gotta admit,

Jason Connell:

well, we've been doing the every other week. And we have lots of new shows coming out but sell before you know or back on the weekly release date. And you're gonna have all the content you desire for your drives in Los Angeles traffic. Yeah,

Sal Rodriguez:
