Jason Connell:

Welcome to Just curious media. This is let's talk Cobra Kai. I'm Jason Connell.

Sal Rodriguez:

And I'm Sal Rodriguez.

Jason Connell:

All right, so we are back for a nother fun and super special episode.

Sal Rodriguez:

Oh, yeah. A lot of cool things happening in this great trailer. A date announcement for season four. Big news. Oh

Jason Connell:

my gosh. Yes. This is Cobra Kai Season Four date announcement per Netflix. This just dropped on the 25th of September. And Sal, it answers the big question of which you and I went back and forth with our guesses and estimations on when season four will be coming out. Yeah,

Sal Rodriguez:

I went back and listen to that episode. went back in time, just to see what we guessed because I had forgotten. Oh, I remember you. Okay, I got the refresher. And I liked your I really liked your guests. I thought it was really fun. And I thought mine was going to be like real like, you know, centered and absolute. But no, I was wrong. And you were wrong. Unfortunately. Let's talk Cobra Kai was wrong about the December release date for season four.

Jason Connell:

Why don't you remind our listeners who didn't go listen to it again and remember what our guesses were?

Sal Rodriguez:

I guessed Friday, December 17. So I'm halfway right. Just for clarification. I'm halfway right. Your guests, which was so fantastic. You guessed that they would release it on Thanksgiving Day. So you could have all of Thanksgiving family weekend to absorb and digest and binge on season four. Unfortunately, you and I were both wrong. Just to be clear. I'm proud of our guesses. I'm absolutely proud of our guesses. But no, the season four release date is a date that I throughout I throughout this state. I was like they're not gonna release it on that date. Well, guess what they did? They did release it on the date.

Jason Connell:

Allegedly. For now they're planning to release it that day. Yeah. If Johnny has anything to do with it, he might get hold of that laptop and go to the internet and change it. Let's hope but for now, it is set for

Sal Rodriguez:

New Year's Eve. Friday, December 31.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, you know what, not a bad day, because there's not a lot to do during that day, because I'm assuming it'll come out on midnight. Yeah, you know, December 30 rolls on the 31st. So you do have some time before. Everyone has a New Year's Eve parties planned. And I guess there'll be a little bit more social gathering this year. But look for a lot of benders hitting Netflix that day that night. And I'm imagining high numbers. So they picked a good date.

Sal Rodriguez:

But you know what, because of the universe that we're dealing with, and the showrunners that we are dealing with, we know they love to flip the script. Wouldn't it be interesting? If as we approached, they actually do flip it to December 17? And I'm right after all.

Jason Connell:

Okay. Well, we shall see. So well, they didn't just tell us a date. They also gave us another glimpse at season four.

Sal Rodriguez:

Oh, yeah. This trailer as exciting as it was to see there was actually a pivotal moment here. There is a moment which I will mention as we get to it, that I believe it's almost like all roads lead to this. Because I kind of feel like in the beginning, it's a little more of the same. And then it reaches a pivotal moment. And we see someone and I go, Aha, it's building to that. Because that moment is what everybody's really anticipating for season four, a certain appearance by a certain person, a certain villain. We want him we see him and I feel like the trailer is leading up to that moment where we see him. Yeah, so

Jason Connell:

basically, we pick things back up as you said, or at Miyagi dough. We have Daniel and Johnny Leedy, Miyagi dough and Eagle Fang students, and Daniel's addressing everyone while a training montage begins a little bit of Miyagi dough, some Cobra Kai, a lot of new Cobra Kai students I noticed and Sal Daniel says something in the beginning, which really just harkens back to his relationship with Johnny.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, and I feel like it was a almost an olive branch about as good of an olive branch as we have seen between Daniel and Johnny.

Jason Connell:

Alright, so we're gonna go through the script, line by line. There's not much in here a lot more visuals than verbiage. So jump in.

Sal Rodriguez:

Daniel and Johnny are there in front of the dojo addressing the students. Daniel says, many of us used to be enemies, but rivalries don't need to last forever. And obviously he's referring to probably the goings on between the students. Maybe the goings on between Cobra Kai and Miyagi, though, but I think also what has transpired all these years between him and Johnny I feel like this is Daniel. He kind of motions he kind of pivots to it looks. Okay, so there we go. This is him, meaning, Hey, Johnny, you and I also so I think a very special moment. I think this is a this is the solid piece between Daniel and Johnny.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. So now continue. The all Valley tournament

Sal Rodriguez:

is just a few months away. The stakes are higher than they've ever been. We know the Cobra Kai is going to use every dirty trick in the book. There's only one way we're going to be able to beat them. And then Johnny comes in by kicking their ass is so hard they shoot themselves. They strike first will pre strike.

Jason Connell:

Oh my god, I love this Priester. I

Sal Rodriguez:

like it because it's a cross between pre emptive striking. It taken up the emptive just pre strike. I like it.

Jason Connell:

As he says it he hits Dimitri with something which is hysterical

Sal Rodriguez:

for Dimitri, like still getting bullied to this day. Yeah. So go on. Daniel says, we're getting ahead of ourselves. And Johnny says, we're going to take back the valley. And Daniel says, take it back in a measured and organized approach. And Johnny says, we bite first.

Jason Connell:

So I like this bite for Sal. We have strike first bite first. And now Johnny's also endorsing pre striking, they're kind of rewriting the Cobra Kai playbook here. I

Sal Rodriguez:

like it. And you know what I keep getting images of as I see Daniel and Johnny there in front of the dojo kind of on equal footing. Right? Yeah, I just have these images of Goofus and gallant. From Highlights for Children. Hey, anybody highlights? Oh,

Jason Connell:

my gosh. Yeah, that's going back. I remember those books, and they were always at the dentist. Oh,

Sal Rodriguez:

yeah. And it was always like gallant always says, Please, and thank you, like Goofus just takes what he wants, you know, like, I always loved reading Goofus and gallant and this is what I'm seeing. I'm seeing visions of Goofus and gallant with Daniel and Johnny.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, it's very good cop bad cop. Yeah, I really liked their approach to this a lot. So and after this line is given the bite first, we cut to crease biting an apple in front of Amanda at a grocery store. Like was he waiting for her? They're stalking her just to have another confrontation?

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, I think neither of them are supposed to be that close to one another. I believe they still have restraining orders on one another. Right. So So officially, they're both in breach of the restraining order.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, unless they just accidentally bumped into each other. So as this is going on, so we start to get some text on screen. So we'll hit those as well along the way.

Sal Rodriguez:

The first one says new sides. And then

Jason Connell:

we cut two, which I believe is Johnny doing the crane with Daniel and pads. And Sal I love the fact that it looks like he has the catcher's mask on Mr. Miyagi is famous mask from the Karate Kid when he trained with Daniel at the lake.

Sal Rodriguez:

Oh, yeah. Yeah. Because that's not something that you're going to see in a dojo with somebody in the catcher's mask that is obviously for baseball. And yet, Miyagi did use that as head gear, when he was working with Daniel. So now we have Daniel, I wonder if that's the actual same catcher's mask I have

Jason Connell:

would have been in his house, but I like the fact that Daniel looks disgusted. Like, probably mad that Johnny's stayed in the crane. Like that whole scene. I cannot wait to see.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, we don't know yet. I mean, I hope we're gonna find out, I guess, first episode, I guess. Does this new Dojo have a name? Yeah. I mean, what is it? Wait, is there still Eagle thing? It's still there.

Jason Connell:

Well, as far as we know, I saw no new signage of any kind for the Miyagi dough shots. So I don't know the name of the new dojo. I would venture to say that it would be under the Miyagi dough banner, but an eagle fan was such an afterthought. And it's new, funny side thing, but we'll have to wait and see. I just don't know.

Sal Rodriguez:

I think anybody and anybody that follows the show would have to say they could probably go ahead and get rid of Eagle Fang. I mean, how long was it around? What two weeks?

Jason Connell:

A lineup for sure.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, Jason. I'm going to assume at this moment, I will assume this we'll see if I'm proven wrong. As we approach I'm going to assume that they are being absorbed into Miyagi dough. And just like Daniel joined Cobra Kai in the Karate Kid, Part Three, now Johnny joins Miyagi dough. Holy.

Jason Connell:

Yes, I like it. I'll go with that too. I second your motion. So now we have more text on

Sal Rodriguez:

screen. So new stakes new season,

Jason Connell:

followed by a super fast Cobra Kai montage where Daniel and Johnny fist bump Hawk is manhandling a young kid as Nathaniel looks on. Robbie is dancing with someone and a leopard print dress. Carmen kisses Johnny. And so is that Tori dressed as a little mermaid if a school dance.

Sal Rodriguez:

You know what I didn't pause this one. I didn't pause this one but I it looks like

Jason Connell:

so then we have Daniel climbing a chain attached to a ceiling, like super rocky for type training with Johnny below him. And then Johnny trains at Mr. Miyagi, his water balance platform with Daniel in the background. And then there's a shot of a gymnastic class or competition, of which Sal I didn't recognize anyone.

Sal Rodriguez:

And then we see crease and he says they're not the only ones teaming up. And then here's that pivotal moment to me. All roads lead to this. We pan over and we see Harry Silva standing in the doorway walking into the Cobra Kai dojo. Then we see him tying his trademark ponytail. And then this was fun. We get to see him work in the back. Now I would love to have seen him kick the heavy bag. Yeah, exactly. But again, you know, he's a little bit long in the tooth as they say.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, he was a good fighter. So he was really tired.

Sal Rodriguez:

I would not want to fight him. Now. I don't care how old he is. I wouldn't want to fight him. And while I'm gonna see though, if he does deliver those kicks, because I'm you know, he was known for those kicks in Karate Kid three, just beautiful taekwondo kicks.

Jason Connell:

Oh, yeah. And then what do we see on screen, Cobra Kai four. Nice, followed by one of our favorite two in these types of sequences, the best one liners and all of the show. This isn't her best, but it's pretty funny over some wine, talking to Daniel.

Sal Rodriguez:

Amanda says, If you told me a year ago that our family safety depending on winning a karate tournament, I would have thought you were joking. Here we are living in the Twilight Zone.

Jason Connell:

I'm a big Twilight a very sarcastic self.

Sal Rodriguez:

I love Twilight Zone. Anytime somebody references Twilight Zone. I'm in favor of it. So yeah, there's an Amanda ism at the end of the Cobra Kai Season Four trailer.

Jason Connell:

And then here comes the big reveal.

Sal Rodriguez:

December 31. There it is. New Year's Eve. It doesn't say New Year's Eve. But obviously we know that's New Year's Eve. And then only on Netflix. Wow. And that's true. That's absolutely true. And by the way, I just looked up something I just realized this because I'm curious what's going on. You can watch season one and two on YouTube. But you got to pay, you gotta pay. It's like 14 bucks to watch season one season two. So so Hey, anybody if you haven't seen season one, season two and you don't have Netflix for the time being you can see season one and two for pay on YouTube.

Jason Connell:

Yep. So that's it. You know, we're still a few months away sow so we're just getting into autumn and this drops December 31. So I'm expecting more trailers. Juicy are reveal more of Terry silver actually hearing Terry silver speak and potentially a hint of Mike Barnes. If he's going to be in the season, actually. So we might even get some snippets or some shots from all Valley.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, only the third all valley as you have reminded us right? This This will only be the third all valley that we've ever seen in the

Jason Connell:

one another has been more of a yes, because we know the history of that. But as far as we've seen, he goes we know the Dow Juan and Johnny's won some that we've never seen. But hey, how about that Sal? How about a flashback sequence to early all valleys?

Sal Rodriguez:

Well, there was no inference that crease ever one of our

Jason Connell:

Well, we talked about that timeline, but due to him and Vietnam, where how old he is, he would have to be in a Master's class. But I mean, I'd love to go back in a flashback and see young Johnny winning his first Well, I mean, pre Daniel, he's still on New Jersey. That would just be a great shot. You know, all the young Cobra guys. I mean, they could do that. No way. Right? They got Benjamin Button technology, or they got enough footage of Johnny in the first karate kid that they can probably make it well,

Sal Rodriguez:

no, I like that. I do like that. There'll be a prequel immediately leading up to the first Karate Kid movie. No, I do like that.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. Are even good if adult? Because who knows? Hey look like, right? Yeah.

Sal Rodriguez:

No, I think it's pretty neat. But the only thing I'm kind of hung up on the fact that they're kind of seems distancing themselves from the whole under 18 thing. None of the recent all Valley. None of the materials by the way, not only on the show, but also in merchandising. I noticed none of the new merchandise says under 18 It's all just all Valley karate tournaments. So I wonder if it's no longer under 18? Yeah, you can be 19 Yeah, or hey, what do you know? What if 25 The day will come where where are these people are going to be over 18 Or are cast our main players or main heroes, there will be over 18 So I think that that's why the showrunners have done this. They kind of just removed all all the speculation that we've done in the past about how old people are. They just took it away. You know, you can be 18 Maybe what if they just made an under 21? The under 21 All valley that gives us a little more breathing room, you know?

Jason Connell:

Yeah. Good. Okay. And then don't give us these very often. I mean, this is season four of Cobra Kai and that was three movies and all of that brought us our third all valley now. So when's the next one? You know, Cobra Kai season seven. We just don't know. But super excited because this season has a lot in store. Johnny and Daniel working together. Chris and his buddy Terry silver reuniting really fun stuff. I cannot wait and now we know the date for now. Hang on to that December 17.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, yeah, year mark, December 17. Mark my words fuck. What do we know about this show that are always changing things are always flipping the script. It's part of what keeps us excited and engaged. And I love it. I'm a big fan of those types of surprises. And because of that, yeah, marked down December 31. But do me a favor mark down December 17. While you're at it,

Jason Connell:

I'll call you at midnight. We'll see if it drops. So that's all we got a lot of fun. Just wanted to cover this fun announcement, that trailer Netflix dropped and we'll be back to cover more things as we lead up to season four. Looking forward to it.
