Jason Connell:

Welcome to Just curious media. This is let's talk Cobra Kai. I'm Jason Connell.

Sal Rodriguez:

And I'm Sal Rodriguez.

Jason Connell:

All right, sound we are back for another fan appreciation. Volume five.

Sal Rodriguez:

I feel flattered. I guess that's the word I would say is I'm flattered that we can keep doing these because we keep getting appreciated by fans. Fan Appreciation because we keep getting appreciated by fans. That's, I'm thankful. And I'm grateful. Thank you to all of our listeners. And thank you to all of our fans, Patreon supporters. Thank you.

Jason Connell:

As am I, I agree with you completely. And it's a good problem to have is to have these wonderful episodes where we can give appreciation to our fans. So let's start off with our Patreon supporters always great to give these dynamic for a shout out. And so one of them gets an extra special shout out.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, because they climbed the ranks there. They're moving on up like the Jeffersons. Yeah, this is fantastic. And right now they are holding the what pillar, the pinnacle the throne. They are it right now.

Jason Connell:

And they're holding the dojo. That's right. So the shout out goes to Brian rum, fola, who went from strike card and he became a Patreon June 23 2021. He was strike card$5 level and on August 10 2021. Sow he jumped up to what?

Sal Rodriguez:

No mercy

Jason Connell:

which is our highest level the $10 a month Brian was the first one he heard us mentioned it on a previous episode. And he immediately made the jump in said I wanted to be the first one so kudos to you Brian for being the first one. It sounds kind of like breaking the four minute mile.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, but you know, what happens is then, you know, they say life is a peak to peak right. So the problem is, Brian, you're so awesome. But here's the thing. We don't want to put a ceiling over your glass ceiling. I feel like we need to make another level

Jason Connell:

to keep incentivizing Brian to move. know hey Brian. I'm so happy right? We

Sal Rodriguez:

made like the black belts. Okay, when you're a black belt, you then go first to be a black belt second to go back. But we didn't have Brian climb the ranks of the belts.

Jason Connell:

I love it. But for now, Brian is top dog he is at no mercy $10 a month. We love it a heck we love people at the lowest level it doesn't matter the strike first level the dollar month we just love this engagement. The financial support, believe it or not truly helps offset the cost. We're pre sponsorship so pre monetization. So that little bit helps us cover just some of the cost and you know, it doesn't go without notice. So it does not go without notice.

Sal Rodriguez:

Well Jason if you don't mind us being a little more transparent. Brian, you know what, we're not taking this this membership and like going out and having drinks we actually have recently upgraded our audio equipment. So the next time you hear me in particular you're going to be hearing a better sounding sound. Thanks to Jason Connell of course but Brian for people like you making it possible for us to actually sound better because we want to be top quality here.

Jason Connell:

That is true sound studio has gotten an upgrade so he will sound a little crisper and we can't wait for that to happen and beyond Brian. Let's give shout out to our other three Patreon there's machete Jason Kersey and Lindsey babe out she was the original the OG and machete and Jason Kersey or stripe card. And Lindsey, the original StrikeForce So we've covered the gamut here.

Sal Rodriguez:

I love that. Thank you, Lindsay.

Jason Connell:

She strikes first.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, that's fantastic. But guess what, though? Brian, you raise the bar. So machete Jason Lindsey. You know what? It's now time to

Jason Connell:

sell is banging the drum tonight. Right card?

Sal Rodriguez:

No Mercy, believe me. Yeah, it all helps. And we appreciate all of it. Thank you, everybody.

Jason Connell:

Yes, absolutely. So now getting into the apple podcast reviews. And we're going to cover July 2021 through August 2021. And just a quick little recap on our ratings. We have 118 ratings on Apple podcasts out and we're at a 4.8 score. That's 4.8 out of five. It's fantastic. I love that we're over the 100 mark, I want to get us to 200. And hopefully we can maintain or even increase and kind of get back to 5.0. But we're doing great. And that's a lot of engagement. And I'm super happy.

Sal Rodriguez:

Jason, can we go to 5.0? Or are we stuck at 4.8? Because of some sort of algorithm. I mean, can we go to 5.0

Jason Connell:

maybe in about hey, we're in a great spot motion. Those don't even hold a 5.0. Unless they have fewer ratings, for instance, that's a crime has like, what 1112 13, whatever it is, but it's at 5.0. But it's easier to maintain with less rating. So yeah, good question. Not sure. But hey, I love that we're getting more and more of those ratings. It doesn't take more than what one second Sal to do a five star rating.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yes. It's just a click. I think you just you look for the fifth star and you click on the fifth star. I think that's about it, right?

Jason Connell:

Yeah. All right. So let's get into our three new Apple podcast five star reviews. So much fun. Sal. I always look forward to doing these. And the first one is from I love this name, macaroni dog. 88.

Sal Rodriguez:

Nice. I like that. Because you know what, I love macaroni and cheese, but with hotdogs. So what if this is like an homage to macaroni and cheese with hotdogs?

Jason Connell:

Yeah, could be. You guys are great. I was looking for a Cobra Kai podcast. And this is the best one by far. I've listened to every episode multiple times, and I really enjoy it every time. I can't wait for season four of Cobra Kai, then listen to you guys. And for the record. Miyagi died when Sam was 10. So assuming he knew her as a baby, she would have known him for 10 years. Well, nice. Interesting. Yeah, that goes back to one of our previous discussions and like, oh, yeah, Sam, you know that she knew Miyagi because that came up in an episode where they were on the boat having a flashback. There was no flashback to see they were just reflecting. I should Yes. And you knew they knew each other. And you and I want flashback scene young Sam and older Miyagi, but I love it. This macaroni dog 88 spells it out for us.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah. No, I liked that. I do love being hit with trivia. I like when people hit me with with knowledge related to Cobra Kai Karate Kid. And yeah, it's good to keep things in perspective, because then you think about what the possibilities are. So knowing that Miyagi and Sam, were hanging out, as you know, almost as grandfather and granddaughter almost in a way. Yeah. Yeah. For a period of 10 years. I mean, what was their relationship? Like? What did she learn? How good is Sam actually because we have not seen the full potential of Sam's Miyagi dough karate.

Jason Connell:

Now we have not not yet. And that's a good point. Daniel, son, Daniel lost his father at a young age. So Sam never got to know her grandfather, at least not Daniel's father. Right. So Miyagi filled that role. Now, I'm assuming Amanda's parents could still be alive. We don't really know. They did mention she took them to the grandkids with. So we've never met a man his parents have not met a man. So there's that. So we assuming Sam had one grandfather, most likely. But I do love the fact that they had this special bond, you know, and I think it was by wonderful. And he probably showed her some things in martial arts. And yeah, that's wonderful. In fact, macaroni dog 88. I love this review. First of all, thank you very sweet of you to listen to our episodes at all, let alone listen to them multiple times. Enjoy them. So kudos to you for taking the time to put an apple podcast review out there. But Sal, I probably would have extracted this second sentence and put it on a future episode of comments and questions from fans. However, I don't ever like to break up an apple podcast five star review. So I leave it intact. But I also love these little comments. And by the way, there's probably a comments and questions episode coming in at some point in time, we've only had volume one. So we are probably due for that in the future.

Sal Rodriguez:

Like that. So like the comments could be literally dropping knowledge for us and everybody else, you know, they're giving us information for all of us to reflect on and utilize. So no, I like that very much. It's like giving us kudos. Then dropping some knowledge. I love that.

Jason Connell:

Absolutely. All right, once you take the second one, so

Sal Rodriguez:

Okay, this next one is by Larry. I don't know if I've seen it right. It's L E Y. Ari, Larry or Larry. Or Larry. I don't know if it's French. What was that? Larry? Okay. Yeah, could be. It could be it could be. It's an interesting spelling. Okay, this is fun. Look at the best karate soap on TV. Yeah, it's true. I think it is a soap opera. I don't we don't talk about it much. But I think it actually is really entertaining show hosts are the right age. And in parentheses, Gen X nostalgia. Yes. And don't take themselves or CK too seriously. That's Cobra Kai Leray I actually do take it very seriously, yourself and yourself. I do. I take it all very seriously, but we enjoy laughing and having a good time. I laughed aloud several times listening to their recaps. Thanks for sharing your experience as Sylmar juvenile detention facility. So okay, that's kind of embarrassing. Yes, I did share when when Robbie went to Sylmar juvenile detention facility. I did share to our listeners that I did spend some time there as a teenager. That is absolutely true. So yeah, there we go. Like I say, guys hate all of our listeners, everything we share is absolutely true. If we go on some tangent about where we've been and how it relates and ties into Cobra Kai and or Karate Kid, it is absolutely true. And yes, I say, I'm not proud of it. But without shame. I do say Yes, I did spend time at Sylmar juvenile detention facility where Robbie

Jason Connell:

came along to later. Yes, you're both alumni.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yes, I'm waiting for my special acknowledgement ceremony. Yeah.

Jason Connell:

Well, thank you, Larry. It was a great review. Love that you find the show entertaining. And yes, we are absolutely to Gen Xers here and nostalgia freaks. And no, I don't take myself too seriously, or the show. But we try to treat it very professionally, that's for sure. We're not here to bag on anything or poke too many holes in the show. We love the show. Now I may be critical of the movies as they got watered down. Mainly the third one and the upcoming fun episode of The Next Karate Kid. Coming soon. I've even read Ralph Masaccio has his own dislike for parts of their credit cut part three saying it's too cartoony. And so yeah, it's obvious. It's right there people see it. But I have fun with stuff like that. But beyond that, we just treat it with respect sell. It's a franchise that goes back to our youth, the 80s and it's unlike any other franchise I've ever seen. And I'm super happy that we made it the first show for just curious media.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, the flagship show so far. Uh, thank you, Larry. Hey, Larry, did you spend time in Silmarils juvenile detention center? Maybe I saw you down there, let us know.

Jason Connell:

All right, and the third and final five star Apple podcast review is from I'll just spell it Eliz ad 111. consistently great. I really liked these guys. They are a perfect mix of nostalgia fans of the movie, but can still make some valid critiques that make it funny. They also bring in their own lives to the discussion, but not too much. It's not about them. But about the Karate Kid Cobra Kai universe, smart, insightful, levelheaded, guys. Wow.

Sal Rodriguez:

Is this a relative of yours? Jason? I mean, I'm proud of our show. Jason, when I read stuff like this, I'm saying is this Jason's mother? No. And when it comes to, you know, talking about our personal lives. That's the thing about the show, you know, if you listened to some of our other podcasts, either, that's a crime or he listened to Let's Talk movies, we may not get too personal, we may not intertwine our lives. But the thing about Cobra Kai is there are these intersections where our lives have touched, if even the fringe of certain things related to Cobra Kai and karate kids. So we will mention that when we will talk about that. But again, we're not going to harp on that with this show is not about us. It's not about Sal and Jason. But if we can connect ourselves to the scene, or to the events that we're looking at, we absolutely will because we always are bringing everything tying everything down and bringing it back home to our connection and relationship with the Karate Kid Cobra universe.

Jason Connell:

Absolutely.

Sal Rodriguez:

So thank you, Ella. Xad 11 one, I'll say Alizad 11. One, I like them.

Jason Connell:

Again, I love hearing nostalgia. It's right on the nose. It's two reviews in a row. And yeah, you know, we bring our own lives into it, we try to make it funny, we try to make it relatable. Criteria kid meant a lot to me growing up and then continued over the years to do so I would revisit the film style every few years and just be like, Man, it still works. I wouldn't revisit the sequels as much. But I would definitely watch the critic, especially when I moved to California. And I would be like, Oh, it's been five years, I'm gonna put it on. And then I would recognize the location and I started geeking out. So for this to come full circle, and have a show, not just a show, come out sell a show of this quality to come out. I was into this show. Before it had gotten the Netflix and before it became a thing before dominant Netflix like we talked about in a recent episode. But that's like way above my expectations ever. I'm just so excited to see these characters live on evolve, change, grow, bring in a new cast and storylines. There could be new Karate Kid movies, we've talked about spin offs, it's like I am just in awe of it. And I'm telling you and I'll keep harping on this till it comes true. Miyagi series is imminent.

Sal Rodriguez:

They do tease that I think one of the showrunners talked about that recently kind of teasing some of the possibilities for spin offs. And you know what they're also having Jason, if I could do my own commercial here. Yes, the action figures I hold in my hand I hold in my hand the new Diamond Select Cobra Kai action figures. It is a three pack we have Daniel Russo, John crease and Johnny Lawrence in fully articulated action figure form ComiCon exclusive by Diamond Select and hey, check out the Salvador Los Angeles YouTube channel. That's one word Salvador, Los Angeles. And I have a full review of these action figures. And I also compare them to predecessors by NECA. And icon heroes. I also think I have a fun Co, a little tiny Funko figure in there. So make sure you check out the Salvador Los Angeles channel, be sure to subscribe because there is more upcoming Cobra Kai Karate Kid content on my toy review channel. So check it out.

Jason Connell:

Well, back to this wonderful review, at least add 111 Thank you. Really, I'm touched. I like being called a smart, insightful guy as well.

Sal Rodriguez:

I tell you that all the time. Jase? Yeah, it's very true.

Jason Connell:

Thank you. But no, thank you to everyone for leaving these reviews. I know. It takes time. You want to sound right. And I know it. And I appreciate it. So so much. We appreciate it. So so much. And that's why we do these shows, because we want to give a shout out. It's not just lost on us that since we get a review, I usually send them to sell right away somebody right away. And I wait for your reaction because I'm like, wow, this is great. Another one. It's like Christmas. So they mean so much to us. So we love doing this podcast just to share the great reviews with everyone else.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, we appreciate the feedback. We like knowing that we're not just here talking to ourselves, Jason, it's one thing if you and I just want to get on a conversation and talk about the Karate Kid Cobra universe. That's one thing. That's true. That's one thing and that's fine. And some of you are doing that out there. And that's fantastic. But you know, if we're gonna record a show, take the time to record ourselves, put it up on Apple podcasts and Google podcasts. We want to know that people are out there listening and care about it and want to hear more and are happy with what they've gotten so far. So we appreciate everybody and all of your feedback. Keep listening. Yes,

Jason Connell:

yes, absolutely. Thank you all. So thank you so much for listening and please be sure to subscribe to Let's Talk Cobra Kai wherever you get your podcast. You can also really help us by giving the show a five star rating on Apple podcast.

Sal Rodriguez:
