Jason Connell:

Welcome to Just curious media. This is let's talk Cobra Kai. I'm Jason Connell.

Sal Rodriguez:

And I'm Sal Rodriguez.

Jason Connell:

All right sound we have a visitor.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, this is an episode unlike any other before.

Jason Connell:

We've never done this before. So we have with us today in studio in his own studio. Yeah, Patreon superfan. Jason Kersey.

Jason Kersey:

Hey guys, thanks so much for having me. This is awesome. Oh.

Jason Connell:

Did you ever think that you would be on an episode of Let's Talk over guy?

Jason Kersey:

No, I discovered your show after I watched the third season. I discovered your show and I just fell in love with it completely. No, I never imagined this happening. No.

Sal Rodriguez:

It made me cry.

Jason Connell:

Oh, me.

Sal Rodriguez:

Both Jason. I'm gonna Jason sandwich here is what

Jason Connell:

you really are. You really are. So yeah, I didn't need the Jason I loved when you first joined, I think you became a Patreon. We kind of started the Patreon and got it was like an afterthought. Like I heard other shows do it. I was like, Yeah, let's do that. And then it just was like crickets. And we didn't even think about it was on the tag at the end of the show. And then we got one. And I think she's a striker first. Yeah. And I thought, Whoa, wait a second. This works. And then it's funny how one could snowball to more. And then you came on. And we've had exchanges back and forth there too. And I've really enjoyed it. So you're a fellow Oklahoman?

Jason Kersey:

Yes. Correct. Coming to you from Oklahoma City right now. Yeah. So

Jason Connell:

those who listen to the show know that I was born and raised in Oklahoma. I grew up in Tulsa. And I spent a lot of my life there. And yeah, that was immediate connection. I love that and you cover football and football is very dear to my heart. So why don't you tell us what you do?

Jason Kersey:

Yeah, I work for the athletic I cover Oklahoma Sooners football and then kind of college football generally, but mostly the Sooners. And yeah, they're always interesting. And so yeah, it's a really, really fun job. Yeah. And I know that that interest, you know, you went to Oklahoma State, though, right?

Jason Connell:

I did. But I grew up a Sooners fan. Okay. And then one has to you know, when you go somewhere, it's like, well, that becomes your new allegiance. Now, let's get forward when I moved to Los Angeles in oh four. All of a sudden, I wasn't around cowboys and Sooners and I'm around, you know, it's a whole other thing. It's USC, it's UCLA. It's the PAC 12 or whatever it is now, and I started to get back into my big 12 routes. That's when Texas had that incredible game at the Rose boys. I still have like four miles from that. I wasn't at the game. But I was right there. I got on the big 12 and then kind of refound my sooner pride. Yeah. So I'm back, baby. It just took a long way to get there. Yeah. And so yeah, when you were like writing for them, my cousin went to school there and we're very close. And we talked before games after games. Yeah, they've been knocking on the door recently, man. And it's time though. It's been a long, long, long time. Since they want a title when he says what

Jason Kersey:

second year wasn't? It's been 20 or 21 years. Yeah,

Jason Connell:

they have been there. They put all these Heisman guys in the NFL so. So I love that you cover it and we can have another discussion sometime. About that for sure. Casals is looking at me like

Sal Rodriguez:

No, no, I do enjoy watching a good football game in person. Yeah. It's a big difference. If you're in person. It is fun.

Jason Connell:

So did you go to Oklahoma?

Jason Kersey:

I did. Yeah. I grew up in I grew up in I don't know if you've heard of Noble Oklahoma just south of norm and that's where I grew up. Okay. I went to you. Yes. Was that the Blake years? No. stoops Stoops. She was already there. Yeah, he was there. My senior year of college. Sam Bradford won the Heisman. Got it? Yeah. Okay. And Blake Griffin was the NBA or NCAA basketball player of the year. Oh, yeah. So it was a good year to be there.

Jason Connell:

Absolutely. So how far back you said you jumped in Cobra Kai season three and then kind of went back and then discovered let's talk Cobra Kai. But were you always a fan of the Karate Kid?

Jason Kersey:

Yeah. So I watched I've watched the first two seasons of Cobra Kai as they came out. I discovered there I got, ya know, when I was a little kid, my my parents would show us Karate Kid, my brother and I loved it. We watched it together a bunch times. I saw the second third ones when I was a kid, but it was mostly the first one. I've only started to love

Sal Rodriguez:

Jason when you and your brother would watch credit kid. Were you Daniel or were you John? Yeah, I was.

Jason Kersey:

I was blond. And I was older. So I probably was Johnny, I would have to say

Jason Connell:

you like Cobra Kai. Yeah. Well, I

Jason Kersey:

love Daniel too. As you can see behind me. There we go.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, so So I was gonna ask you have you asked about explain what's going on there? Because you were texting me when you put eyes on that right when he spotted that? Yeah. So

Jason Kersey:

yeah. So I was in Chicago at the National Sports collectors convention for work. I was there for work, which is just an unbelievable thing. Sal, I bet you would really enjoy that based on what I've heard. Yeah, I was there because Spencer rattler who was Oklahoma's starting quarterback, that's a whole other as he was he was there signing autographs, and it was this big historic event because he was like the first college athlete to sign autographs for money publicly like

Jason Connell:

exactly right. That whole new thing that yeah, So you can start making money now as a collegiate athlete. Yeah. So

Jason Kersey:

So I was there to cover that. And I walked past this stand and they had one of those. So I texted my brother and I said, Should I do it? And then he said, Hell yeah, you should do it. And then I called my wife. See if I could do it.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, Janet, can I really do it?

Jason Kersey:

She pretty much just told me you know, I'm gonna make fun of you, but do whatever you want. Yeah, you

Jason Connell:

message me like, I may do it. I was like, Yeah, you should. Yeah, that's incredible. What do you explain what that is? Yes. I know what it is. I don't even know if sound knows exactly. Yeah. Well,

Sal Rodriguez:

so I'm guessing Yeah. For what it is. So

Jason Kersey:

it was actually signed by Ralph Macho. It's karate gi says The Karate Kid. And it says, Sweep the leg under it.

Jason Connell:

What's in the bottom right corner? What is that? Oh, that's just

Jason Kersey:

a little authentication certificate. And you can see I don't know if you guys like Seinfeld, but I've also got Frank Costanza ha of course holding the Festivus pole because that's my favorite. Yes,

Jason Connell:

I've got all of that. Oh, rest in peace. Rest in peace. Yeah,

Sal Rodriguez:

no, no, let me tell you something. And not only was in I was an extra in Seinfeld. First season my mother was an extra Seinfeld versus In fact, my mother's right there on camera. I think it's a season one episode two or three. It's I think it's called the stakeout they're in a video store. Jerry and Elaine or Nigel store there's two of the ladies have walked through between them. My mother is the lady on the right. Clear as day in fact, I showed my mother the episodes just the other day. Go Look mom, there you are. That's so yeah, no, believe me. Jason are big lovers of Seinfeld and curb

Jason Connell:

curb Curb Your Enthusiasm

Jason Kersey:

after new season is amazing. By the

Jason Connell:

way I just started. That's a whole other.

Jason Kersey:

So I got permission to buy it. And then I had to go interview Spencer rattler. By the time I got back. It was gone. And so I was afraid it was I'd missed it. But then they had another one that wasn't framed. So I bought the one that was a friend. He said, Hang on, Jason. We'll sign it real quick. No, no, it was already know it was already signed. But it wasn't framed. So I got it framed myself. Yeah. Oh, that's it's the coolest.

Sal Rodriguez:

Awesome. Yeah, yeah.

Jason Connell:

In the movie, because it didn't say the Karate Kid in the movie. But still he signed it. It's the authentic Miyagi dough logo there. It looks like I love it. Man. What? Well, your story doesn't stop there. Because I would then relay this to Sal and my girlfriend as well. Like, hey, this one fan. He bought this thing. And I sent it to you, Sal. But yeah. Tell us Jason, what else? Let's talk Cobra Kai and Cobra Kai have gotten you into recently.

Jason Kersey:

Yeah, this is not something I've really gone public with. But yeah, it's let's do it. So it was partially just sort of realizing I needed a hobby because I don't really have Well, I didn't really have anything to do I work so much and getting into Cobra Kai and falling in love with the show. And then to be honest, I'm not just saying this, but like hearing you talk about your martial arts experiences on the show. I was like, you know, maybe I should look into it. I'd never even considered it before. And so yeah, I'm going to this dojo and in Edmond, Oklahoma. It's go Giroux. So it's founded by the real Mr. Miyagi, which is pretty cool.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. You said that was like, Oh, my Yeah, from Okinawa. Yeah, we

Sal Rodriguez:

talked about that. I

Jason Connell:

think we did talk

Sal Rodriguez:

about when we did the deep dive into the original movie Karate Kid. We covered that it's a podcast, everybody listened to it. We I think we talked about the original Miyagi Yeah,

Jason Connell:

yeah, we did. So that's amazing. So not only did you seek out more than one Dojo do, you just went right there and got lucky.

Jason Kersey:

I got lucky. I reached out to a couple different places. But that was the first one I tried. And it's the only one I tried. Because I liked it so much. It's really cool. My sensei has been to Okinawa many times, like train under all these masters galleys pictures off. It's so cool. And it's not easy, and it's sometimes I get frustrated, but it's really fun. I just got back from class right now.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, love it, man. Yeah, that is great. Let's talk Cobra Kai is helping people get into martial arts.

Sal Rodriguez:

I'm the odd man out. I did. Yeah.

Jason Connell:

Tomorrow, sir. Yes. Well, you you're into boxing and MMA. Okay. Yeah,

Sal Rodriguez:

well, one, okay. I'm an MMA fan. But Jason Kay, I'll say Jason Kay, I did take boxing instruction for a while to take Muay Thai instruction for a while and unfortunately though, actually dropped out of each right before I began sparring. And it wasn't because I was afraid to spar is because right at that time, I ran out of money ran out of money. Both those types cost it does Yeah, but I do aim to go back and Hey, Jason. Kay, now you're inspiring me so I need to get

Jason Kersey:

in this awesome. Yeah, I love it. I love it. That's great to hear. What is the martial art that you're studying in particular? Yeah, it's go Giroux, Okinawan karate. Yeah, okay, Okinawan

Sal Rodriguez:

karate. Yes. Okay, so it would be the original Miyagi would be okay,

Jason Connell:

so are you doing hell forms and sparring are as they're like, What are you learning? Exactly? A lot

Jason Kersey:

of it's just learning forms and cottas cottas. Yeah. Which, you know, makes me feel very Daniel Russo doing Oh my gosh. Yes. But yeah, doing a lot of that kind of stuff. And then we often go in the back and do techniques and he's done some wrist locks and things like that. It's pretty Fun.

Jason Connell:

I was going to ask you that because I've studied enough where I crave that because that's like real life application. Yeah, you can do I mean, the codons are great, and they're beautiful and all that. And I love sparring. But I really like the wrist locks of takedowns. It's mind blowing, and you got to work with a good partner who you can trust who's not like speeding through it, you can really get hurt. I mean, just a little bit of pressure. Like my instructor was also just amazing. The one in LA, one ounce of pressure, like breaks your wrist. Yeah. So it's a lot of trust. But what you learn there is amazing, so I'm really glad to hear that they're teaching you that stuff, too, because they won't even show a lot of the young kids that way until you're certain age, because that's real. I mean, powerful stuff. Yeah. So that's really cool. They do that. Are you doing? Is it kick heavy? Punch heavy. You're getting like a good cardio workout because I crave that as well.

Jason Kersey:

Yeah, a little bit. Yeah, I do a lot of punches. I haven't gotten too much into kicks yet. Okay. A lot of punches. Yeah. See, Sal,

Jason Connell:

you're getting excited.

Sal Rodriguez:

No, you know, Jason Kay, that's why I started taking more time was because as fun as boxing was, I wanted to kick I was like, I want to kick the fact that I can't kick is strange. And so that's why I actually left boxing then to get involved in Muay Thai and so yeah, I love I love kicking. Yeah.

Jason Kersey:

Now, I was gonna say actually went the other day to Academy and actually bought a heavy bag just to have an ice pack. Yeah, I've kind of gone all in with this.

Jason Connell:

We're gonna check with you periodically, you're gonna be moving up the ranks. Like I used to talk about what belt I was at when I would come in. So I'm assuming you're still white belt. Oh, very, very much. Yes. Very white, super white. And that's okay, man. I love that. It's an adult class. I've taken probably some teens in there. How they could have teenage boy. Yeah, do that. That's cool, man. Well, I'm glad. Hey, I'm glad we could help Jason. Yeah, absolutely. I'm really glad we can.

Sal Rodriguez:

Jason, I tell you what I do. I want to talk to your wife. Your wife's probably calling her girlfriends. Like he bought a GI hung a yacht as well. He joined that he joined a class from some

Jason Connell:

Karate Kid to this podcast. Now. He's on the podcast. I don't know what's going on.

Jason Kersey:

Yeah. Yeah, she's in the other room rolling your eyes right now. It is so great. But that sounds good. I did get her to watch the three movies. I haven't gotten her to watch. Wow. Yeah.

Jason Connell:

This is like What Sal recently.

Sal Rodriguez:

That's what I did. Same thing with me and my girlfriend. I got her to watch the first three movies. Oh, and I think she watched The Next Karate Kid with me also. So I got her to watch for. Yeah. And I think she watched Yeah, all of Cobra Kai. So she's all cut up as far as 1234 and Cobra. Okay. I don't know if she's listened to all the podcasts. That's another story.

Jason Connell:

Well, and your wife have to listen to this podcast. Jason. Yeah. Nothing else. Absolutely. obviously want to give her a shout out. You can.

Jason Kersey:

I love you. And thank you for being patient with me.

Jason Connell:

Yes, that's awesome. So I don't really do much of this on the show. I like to go off facts and really give you what I think. But hey, you're here. You're a superfan. What do you think is in store with season four of Cobra Kai,

Jason Kersey:

I'll tell you what I really hope I really hope Daniel and Johnny stick together. I really hope so.

Sal Rodriguez:

I say to the

Jason Kersey:

bickering and then becoming enemies again. I understand why we've gone through that. But I feel like we as fans have like earned seeing them really be friends like can stick together. Yeah. And they can bicker and they can have their little Spats. I'm sure they will. But I hope I hope that the alliance remains because I would really hate it if they slipped back into you that again. That's kind of what I'm hoping for.

Jason Connell:

You do let's get our podcast, don't you? I do. know he's, he's really speaking for me there. So because it couldn't have said it better than you had done that. Jason. I can't have them fall back out of favor. And then they don't make it so many times. Like, okay, just let's go. We're on the same page. Because you know what, Jason? I want to see how high they can take it. Yeah, you know, they could make Miyagi dough, if that's the name that they keep, just thrive. And that you know, the show can't last forever, right. So let's, let's set ourselves up for success. And whatever happens happens, but I don't want to see them one step forward. Two steps.

Jason Kersey:

Can I tell you what, like, my dream is on this show? Yeah, please. I want when Johnny marries Carmen for Daniel to be the best, man. That's what I want. Wow. That's what I want. Yeah.

Jason Connell:

I like that. And I could see that happening. We haven't talked about marriage, but I haven't listed earlier. I mean, we dropped earlier. But yeah, you're right, because he's closer to Daniel than even his old Cobra Kai buddies at this point. Yeah. I mean, there's so much like, it's not even funny. So I I buy that completely.

Sal Rodriguez:

No, that's fantastic. That's fantastic. You know why Jason? Because if he had to choose another old school Cobra Kai, who would he choose? I mean, it would have to be Bobby I guess by default. Bobby's

Jason Kersey:

doing the ceremony. Yes. This guy.

Sal Rodriguez:

Let me find our third member of let's talk.

Jason Connell:

Yeah, Bobby is absolutely doing this ceremony. And Jimmy didn't say much anyway, so he can't be the guy. Wow. You know, they are they're that close. Yeah, I do believe I mean, who was Daniel's best friend all those years. It was Mr. Miyagi. Right. And now it's Amanda. He doesn't have a best buddy friend. It is Johnny no doubt about Yeah, so I'm with you, man. I want to see Tango and Cash. They can have their moments I can pick her like brothers fight like sisters, but they're going to be on the same page I love you know, what about the dark side? What do you think will happen to Cobra Kai? Oh man,

Sal Rodriguez:

or Terry silver.

Jason Kersey:

I can't wait. I can't wait. For Terry silver. Seeing that little glimpse of him hitting a punching bag was so awesome. Yeah. So I don't know. I don't guess I really have any great predictions on that side. I'm still kind of pulling for Robbie dammit. I really hope Robin comes back around. I don't know if he will. I'm very concerned about that. Because he had come so far, you know?

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah. And he was almost there. He was almost into the light. He was there. It was like that old art. I don't know if it was DaVinci. Where you have God reaching with the atom? Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So close. So close.

Jason Connell:

So close. Rob is such a great character. And he's a good kid at heart. So I do I want to see him come to the light for sure. Some of the other ones we'll see. And we got some new people coming in. wait to hear the episode that we just recorded. So you know, we talked about some of the new names and the new players. So there's a lot of new stuff coming. We cannot wait for season four. Sal is getting super geeked out earlier. Like he's, since we start talking about it. It's like, oh, it's so far away. But we're getting there.

Sal Rodriguez:

Ya know, but our last episode we recorded was about all about season four. And we hadn't really dug into Season Four yet. I guess.

Jason Connell:

Promo a little bit. Okay. We didn't

Sal Rodriguez:

go into the deep dive of speculation.

Jason Connell:

And there's more coming. There's much more coming.

Jason Kersey:

I'm really wondering who that all Valley final will be. That's what I'm I like it. Was it gonna be like Robbie and Sam. Is it gonna be Miguel and Robbie again is Kyler and Miguel that's the one that started the whole thing.

Sal Rodriguez:

Oh, yeah. Like all the speculation.

Jason Kersey:

Speculate i know i i am and I finally have somebody to talk to you about it. Yeah.

Jason Connell:

Well, there'll be a third place award like there wasn't any threesome and this is the year all these players they could reintroduce that oh, let's a constellation fight. We haven't seen that many all valleys historically. You know, we got the Karate Kid. And then well, the Karate Kid part three and then Cobra Kai is done one. So all this stuff, three seasons of shows three movies? Well, four movies, if you want to count it. Only three all valleys. So this one's got to be like this grand. They gotta raise the bar here. Yeah,

Jason Kersey:

they have to. And I'm assuming Miguel won't get an automatic invite into the finals. Sorry,

Jason Connell:

I had to bring it out would be absurd. If that happens. I'm taking a pause. I've literally taken apart we

Jason Kersey:

know it's not going to happen because Xander was the returning champ and season one and he and he had to fight Miguel.

Jason Connell:

He had to fight us. Yeah, exactly. Nice. I also wonder

Jason Kersey:

will there be any like Torian Robbie participating in this or the ones that started the school fight? Will there be any backlash to them being part of it? I sort of wonder about that, too.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. There's a lot of so any questions you want to ask us?

Jason Kersey:

Yeah. Oh, man. I guess I asked questions for a living. So

Jason Connell:

yeah, you do. You're also a podcaster. Let's not forget that. Yeah.

Sal Rodriguez:

Jason Connell. I thought about this before tonight, because he said he's a podcaster. I was like, huh, is he going to try to flip the script and interview us is

Jason Kersey:

Eli. Okay, I got a question that I want to know what you guys think about okay, so you know how in season three, counselor Blatt was just a huge pain, like kept going after Sam and Sam kept getting in trouble. And she always took the other side. She always took Hawk side every time. Yeah, it doesn't make any sense because in the first season, Daniel says the reason he chaperones the dance he says is because counselor Blatt and I go way back, so they're friends, so wouldn't she side with Sam?

Jason Connell:

Yes, you're right. I wonder too much about it. But it's a good point. I wonder if there's more there?

Sal Rodriguez:

No. What are what don't we know about their relationship? How, how far back? Do they go?

Jason Connell:

Yeah, how tight are they did something happened at one day at LORUSSO auto? And then who knows? But you're right. There's a lot of like little things and sometimes they don't necessarily do a good job of flushing it out. That's a good question.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah. No, no, you caught that though. You catch those things? Oh, yeah.

Jason Connell:

Those things are great. Yeah. Wait, yeah. Do you do a repeat viewing? Have you seen each season more than one?

Jason Kersey:

I think I've seen each season three times. Okay.

Jason Connell:

That's okay. So you do that you do those deep dives.

Sal Rodriguez:

I definitely do twice. Okay.

Jason Connell:

I've watched them twice for notes, but I haven't gone back and done the whole thing. I'm going to do that before season four. Yeah, that's why I started noticing in movies and and then shows like, oh, yeah, what's really going on there. So that's a good point. And I'm gonna pay close attention to that, Jason, because it doesn't make sense. I really like

Jason Kersey:

finding the tiny callbacks like the things you barely notice. Like I noticed recently in season one remember when when Daniels giving Johnny a car and they walk out to the lot and he goes yeah, and he points and he goes choose just like Miyagi did when he was given a car. Yeah, they're all these things. tiny little things.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah. Little tips of the hat. Yeah. I like

Jason Connell:

it. No, absolutely. Well, we just did these deep dives with Freddie Fernandez and barrel of a doll. And when I was going down there was like, we know so much more now. And you go back and watch those movies, especially the original, you know, this. It's just so great. And there's so much there that they extracted out and sometimes they don't even get it right. Like there's a lot of things we've brushed over. So I'm with you. I love that stuff. And the show is great at it. But it's not great at timelines. It's not great at underrate teens. It's not there are some things it's like the adults 1314 winning in all valley, but we've made him more historic from Cobra Kai, because Cree speaks so highly of him. But yeah, there's more there to unpack.

Jason Kersey:

I tried to like rationalize the timeline in my head. Like I say, like Daniel got his driver's license. He was 16. And then he graduates and he's gonna go to college, but then he can, he's under 18. But then he also gets a commercial lease and Karate Kid three, none of that makes any sense. So I just like try to say like, Well, maybe he was gifted and talented and graduated early. You know? Yeah, maybe he was just really smart. And that's the reason he was still under 18. But going to go to college. This is the way my brain works.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah. No, no, you gotta try to make sense of it all.

Jason Connell:

They didn't anticipate what's happening now. And they wrote who would have thought it would have probably tied some things up a little bit. But yeah, exactly. The way they just missed out right away. And the second one, I love that the show can get those things right, though. So I have a lot of faith in the show runners. Like we want to see some more people from the Karate Kid, the original comeback, you know, even if it's just the tip of the cap, it's a Friday. He's working somewhere, or Vidal, or whoever I mean, I want to see more of that. Not just Terry silver. I want to see Mike Barnes. Yeah. Because, you know, and even Julie, the best part of besides Mr. Miyagi, the next credit could bring Julie back. She's a two time Oscar winning actress. I'm sure she can do something. Yeah, right. It just be nice. Have you seen the fourth movie?

Jason Kersey:

I just watched it for the first time, like two months ago. And I gotta say, I didn't think it was that bad. I wasn't good, but I didn't think it was that bad. You didn't hate it. I didn't hate it. Um, maybe it's just because of Mr. Miyagi. And Hillary Swank is a great actor. So maybe that's true.

Jason Connell:

That components fine. Yes. When she goes and trains and doesn't speak at that, you know, whatever. That was a monastery. Yeah, like, there's some devices, but I didn't hate it either. In fact, I don't live too terribly far from her house now. So that's going to be a visit if future episodes like salesman bounce it out to some of the LA locations. I'm going to go over there and then Tufts University, some of it was shot there. I've actually read my bike by tufts. So I that's kind of neat that it does exist, but it's obviously the weakest of all the movies. But Miyagi is great.

Jason Kersey:

I noticed the young Walton Goggins in that totally blew me away. I was like,

Jason Connell:

Oh, my God, I thought when I saw it, I revisited last year was like, yeah, now he's somebody it's like, oh, my gosh, there he is.

Sal Rodriguez:

What did he play in?

Jason Kersey:

He was like one of the thugs Yeah, one of the okay. Yeah, of course. Michael

Jason Connell:

iron sides. Always great as a jerk. Yeah. So good.

Sal Rodriguez:

Oh, yeah. Yeah, he's always good.

Jason Connell:

But no one looks like they're in high school. All those bullies like college ish, if not out of college. It's like what's going on here? But Jason, we are doing that movie next day. It's gonna be an episode and we can't wait to explore it. Oh, yeah. Our kid gloves are coming off. Yeah, that's fun with it.

Sal Rodriguez:

Look how far we are. All of us really into Cobra into Karate Kid. And yet I myself have only just seen The Next Karate Kid, what, two months ago, maybe three months ago. And what a treat it was. What a treat. It was Miyagi is last. Yes. Absolutely countable. It was almost like seeing a ghost almost Pat. See Miyagi. So the treat I just focus so much on on how thrilling it was to see Pat Marita in his final performance as Miyagi. So I just really relished in that. Yeah. And everything else. I was like, Yeah, whatever.

Jason Connell:

Yeah. Well, it's kind of neat to see that Hilary Swank. I mean, she loves 90210 She gets this movie role. And then what she became it's a neat story. It really is. And I'm excited to explore it. But anything else, Jason, I mean, first of all, if I haven't said this enough, but thank you so much for being a Patreon supporter of the show. True true fan of Let's Talk Cobra Kai. Really? I mean, I'm glad that we connected and you agreed to come on. Yeah.

Jason Kersey:

This thanks so much for having me. No, this has been great. It's been really fun. And like I said, I think I connected with with you quickly, because I heard you were an Okie, so I was like, Okay, this is a good guy. I know, they recently just for showing the outsiders in theaters. Real and I went in downtown Oklahoma City. I went with a friend and watched the outsiders about a month ago. So it was really cool.

Jason Connell:

I saw that movie in the theater when it came out now. Are there more minutes put in because I know there's there's versions that's that there

Jason Kersey:

was the Francis Ford Coppola cut or whatever. Yeah. Wow,

Jason Connell:

how'd that one play?

Jason Kersey:

It was great. I mean, I loved it. I loved it

Jason Connell:

that movie holds up man before I moved to the East Coast I actually stopped by Sol family caught up with them and Tulsa and I went by the outsiders house because that became a museum yeah when I lived there that thing was like on the way down it was gonna be demolished saved it you know now to Museum and it was so cool to see that whole area is just really blossom but I love that movie so much man so proud of it and Rumble Fish is also a lot of fun. If you haven't seen I haven't seen it. I haven't seen that one. I highly recommend it crazy cast, Nick Cage, Mickey Rourke Dennis Hopper. Diane Lane, Matt Dillon, but it's black and white. It's Tulsa it's just beautiful very artistic watch that one Okay, check it out. Yeah,

Jason Kersey:

absolutely. You

Jason Connell:

to sell you to some of your homework

Sal Rodriguez:

No, you know what you guys got me thinking because I'm a big outsiders fan. My fifth or sixth grade teacher mandatory watching Karate Kid mandatory watching and outsiders mandatory watching Oh, and get this get this mandatory recital of the Robert Frost poem in front of the class. Wow, nature's first green is gold her hardest you to hold her early leaves a flower but only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf so Eden sank to grief as Don goes down today. Nothing Gold Can Stay. Bravo. So we had to do that. You have

Jason Connell:

three seasons to get that sneak that in an episode and now you found that purpose. So nice tie in,

Sal Rodriguez:

but thank you, but you guys got me thinking could the creators of the outsiders do what the creators of The Karate Kid did? Or or you know what Cobra Kai is doing? I mean, can they take extra minutes? No, take that movie and turn it into a show?

Jason Connell:

Well, the outsiders is a bit more bleak.

Sal Rodriguez:

I mean, we lost. Right, we

Jason Connell:

lost Ross Maggio.

Jason Kersey:

So Ross can't be Ponyboy

Sal Rodriguez:

and Swayze he's passed away. So but who else is left? See Thomas Howell is still around.

Jason Connell:

Rob Lowe. Rob Rob Lowe around Tom Cruise is still around. So I

Sal Rodriguez:

see they could they could take these people and have them all grown up and do what Cobra Kai did.

Jason Connell:

That's a good point. Well, as soon as you said that, I thought you're going somewhere else with it. Which I think is intriguing to release the Karate Kid with 30 or 40 more minutes in it that we've never seen. I'm watching sure not to like some outtakes. I mean, polish color corrected sound and put it in there. I'm at the Appleton Director's Cut recipes. John Allison, but someone could do it. Because we're going to talk about this on another episode because it's happening this week. Jason, have you heard about rocky verse Drago? No,

Jason Kersey:

I have not.

Jason Connell:

Well, we'll just give you the little little snippet now because you haven't listened to the episode or watch it. But the RE releasing this Thursday rocky for slice cut 40 unseen minutes in the movie nationwide. It's premiering Thursday night. I've got tickets. We're going. He'll be there for an intro and q&a after. And then it goes live on streaming. So I'm dying to see one night only one night only across the country. Wow. So I'm thinking more movies are doing this karate kid. Hey, give me some more minutes.

Sal Rodriguez:

Yeah, well, guys, musical coming. So so why not?

Jason Kersey:

And I'm all into that too. I love musicals. So I can't wait to see what they do with that.

Jason Connell:

I cannot wait either. So anything else you got? We could probably talk all night. Jason. We should probably do this again. At some point.

Jason Kersey:

This has been so much fun. Honestly, Jason

Sal Rodriguez:

Jason Connell:
